My cut off point has changed as the music industry has changed. When CDs were expensive and had decent trade-in value, I began trading in later albums by bands I loved, because it wasn't worth it to keep those CDs. I was also less inclined to explore albums with poor reputations.

Now that cds can regularly be had for $1-2 and the ubiquity of streaming, I don't really have cutoff points anymore. I've repurchased albums at thrift stores that I got rid of years ago because they have one or two good songs that I'll revisit on a playlist without having to suffer through the whole album.

So, to follow the premise of the OP, you followed and enjoyed Bruce Springsteen's career until his first album??? Please explain this further. Big fan of Steel Mill or Dr. Zoom and the Sonic Boom?? :biglaugh:

Once I heard that Paul Simon refused to give Los Lobos credit for co-writing some songs on his smash hit album 'Graceland', I stopped listening to anything after 'Hearts and Bones'.

I'm not sure that's a very good reason to stop following an artist. You've missed some good music.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Street Survivors and Skynyrd's First and Last (Anything from the 'post-crash' lineup simply isn't Skynyrd)

Blue Oyster Cult - Fire of Unknown Origin (studio), Extraterrestrial Live (live)

Allman Brothers Band - Brothers and Sisters (studio material, save for some exceptions)

King Crimson - Red (studio) - [I actually respect the Belew lineup and like much of '80s-'90s KC, but the revived group carried few of the quintessential Crimson qualities I associate with the band]

Uriah Heep - Conquest ('No Hensley, No Heep!')

The Byrds - Dr. Byrds and Mr. Hyde

Rod Stewart - A Night on the Home, but singles up through to the Tonight, I'm Yours album.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Works, Volume 2

Mountain - Flowers of Evil (studio)

    Boston - Don't Look Around

    Blue Cheer - Outside/Inside

Aerosmith - Night in the Ruts

AC/DC - For Those About to Rock

U2 - How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

    Elton John - Blue Moves

    Van Halen - 1984

Me and SY are friends for these albums, but after that, we don't speak anymore.

  18. I feel you were a little premature with EWF. All n' All was arguably their most accomplished album. They were still making great music up until Faces, which would have been better as a single album. I lost interest after Raise when it was obvious they were just after quick returns from chart hits. They were never going to score another I Am.

Only one I can really think of is Queensryche with Tate....after Promised Land it's garbage other than a handful of songs. Like the albums with latorre though

Does All 'N' All have "Serpentine Fire" on it? That is one of the few post-1975 EWF songs that I like...

Probably. But that's okay. For some reason that incident really bothered me. Screwing over another artist isn't cool.
(Just ask Martin Carthy about 'Scarborough Fair'.) It just seemed sleazy from an artist who should be above it.
    But hey, nobody's perfect.
    Oh well.

The joke about having the first album be the cutoff point is getting old and stanky.

I've heard worse. If you found out something sleazy or greasy about an artist and now it just makes you a little sick, why put up with it?

Clapton: There's One In Every Crowd.... but I think I need to extend that to include No Reason To Cry.
Jack Bruce - Out Of The Storm... but again, I might look to extend that a bit further. Or maybe even more than a bit.
    Rod Stewart - Smiler

I considered ending my Beck collection at Mellow Gold, but now I've decided to just get it all. And I suspect that I'll be much better for it!

  25. I cut off Van Halen after 1984.
