Artists for whom you have a firm "cut-off" album

Every time I set a cut off on an artist, I inevitably reassess something, or simply find and album or two I just flat out missed...so I just stopped doing it.

 

Steely Dan - Aja

 

There's only so much time and money to go around.

 

CCR - Pendulum

 

Sad to say but Snoop's only solo classic is still Doggystyle. He showed so much promise on The Chronic and his debut album. Definitely among the more hyped debut artists of all time that fizzled out a little early in his solo career. But he never released another classic album. Paid, Blue Carpet, and Ego all had their moments and were 'good' but not 'great.'

 

I would say REM up to and including Green.

Allman Brothers Band - Brothers and Sisters
AC/DC- Back in Black

That's about it.

I can see R.E.M., the Smiths, but cutting off Bruce before "Born to Run" every best album ever top 20 pick and before "Darkness". I think you should go back and listen to those two albums and rethink that cut off. The Wild and Innocent was only his second album....

 

Floyd - Animals.

 

This is the only surf music in my collection. Not the tiniest interest in the "real" Beach Boys.

 

Shame you missed Sheik Yerbouti, which is a gem of an album....City Of Tiny Lites is (possibly) my favourite Zappa song ever....(well, today anyway...)

"Snap backs":

AC/DC - stopped at "Back in Black" but also like "The Razor's Edge" (fairly firm after this)
U2 - stopped at "Achtung Baby" but also like "All That You Can't Leave Behind" (fairly firm afterwards)
Neil Young - stopped at "Rust Never Sleeps" but also like "Freedom," "Ragged Glory," "Psychedelic Pill," etc.
Prince - stopped at "Sign O' the Times" but also like "The Gold Experience," "3121," etc. (more to discover here!)
Gary Numan - stopped at "Telekon" but also like "Pure," his Jarre collaboration, etc. (imo, the man is on an upswing!)

 

Doobie Bros - Stampede...it's difficult to consider anything without Tom Johnston as Doobie material.
Black Sabbath - Never Say Die...I'd like the cutoff to be Sabotage because of the tremendous drop in quality after that but the original lineup must be respected.
Steely Dan - Aja...I just cannot get into Gaucho or subsequent material. And while I love Nightfly, it is a Fagen solo album.
Yes - Close to the Edge...I wish I enjoyed Tales of Topographic Oceans but do not; and the later albums, forget it.

 

Black Sabbath - The Mob Rules---but back on the bus for "13"
