Oh man, this is kind of depressing. Steve has been so amazing as Rizzo and taking over Kermit and Ernie from Jim.

On the other hand, Matt is a great puppeteer so that's good that he's taking over the role of Kermit.

I wonder what (if anything) went down? Hmm...

"Light the lamp, not the rat!" -Rizzo.

Nah - if it was something nasty, the company would be sure to include, "Steve will be missed, and we wish him the best of luck with whatever projects he involves himself with next", in the press release, and make sure any news source included that part in their quote.

My guess is, he just wanted to shove his hand up other people. :shh:

Maybe he just decided to retire.

Matt is pretty terrific as Big Bird so hopefully he can transition into Kermit too.

There are rumors that he and Disney have been butting heads the past decade or so, but those are just rumors at this point.

I'm going to blame the Mouse here. In fact, if there is any doubt, blame the Mouse.

They have messed up virtually everything that I loved in my younger days.

I'm not a big fan of Disney owning the Muppets, but I think the 2011 movie (The Muppets) is fantastic. It's up there with The Muppet Movie.

Yeah, I really liked The Muppets (the movie). It's funny, it's got heart, and the songs are really catchy. I haven't seen Muppets Most Wanted yet.

I loved the recent Muppet series. Too bad it was cancelled. There is almost next to nothing that I watch on TV anymore.

That is really high praise. The Muppet Movie is one of my all-time favorites, and one of the all-time greatest movies of its genre. I have not seen the 2011 movie, but I may have to check it out.

Agreed. I loved it. Unfortunately, IMHO, I think its aim at the 18-49 demographic ultimately proved to be its downfall. The series was definitely more adult, and absolutely hilarious.

Again, just my opinion, I think a lot of people thought its aim was at kids.

And Zoot was completely underrated, and underused. Easily my favorite along with Kermit.

The Jim Henson Organization has been developing some new puppet shows (but not Muppets, since they lost the rights to that word), so it's possible he'll go to work for them.

Rizzo the Rat: There are two things in this life I hate: heights, and jumping from them.

Gonzo: Too late now. Come on, I'll catch you.

Rizzo the Rat: God save my little broken body!

[Jumps and falls to the ground. He looks at Gonzo]

    Gonzo: Missed.

Rizzo the Rat: Oh wait a second... I forgot my jellybeans. Um...

[Slides through the bars to retrieve them, and joins Gonzo back on the other side. Gonzo stares at him]

    Rizzo the Rat: What?

Gonzo: You can fit through those bars?

    Rizzo the Rat: Yeah...

Gonzo: You are such an idiot.

Steve and Dave are just so awesome working together as Rizzo and Gonzo. I'm going to miss that.

Not to mention, several human Sesame Street cast were let go in 2016, Bob, Louise, and Gordon.
Also, Caroll Spinney no longer is Big Bird.

Sesame Street has went downhill, ever since it became The Elmo Show.:D

Agreed. I loved Sesame Street, but despise Elmo. Has to be the most annoying Muppet.

    Again, blame the Mouse.

Though they share some performers, The Muppets no longer has anything to do with Sesame Street. They're completely separate now, which is why Kermit hasn't been on Sesame Street in years.

Grew up with Steve's Ernie on Sesame Street. Don't remember much of the actual Muppets.

One of the best modern Bert And Ernie sketches. This cracks me up every single time.
