Steve Whitmire was handpicked by the Henson family to succeed Jim as Kermit. I'm sure Matt Vogel is perfectly capable, but I highly doubt Disney consulted Jim's kids for input.

 

I'm sure you are very correct there, yes... I'm pretty sure Disney picked Matt because he can probably do a pretty good Kermit and he's a good puppeteer. I can't think of anyone better to tackle it, really.

 

Let's not forget the first time we all saw Steve as Kermit. If the last scene doesn't choke you up, check your pulse.
