I really like instrumental or mostly instrumental guitar music like Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson etc.
I stumbled on this Canadian guitarist I never heard of, Nick Johnston. So I downloaded his recent album Remarkably Human and I am really digging it.

I have been a fan of this sort of music for a while so I have done a lot of research in finding music to listen to so if you think you might know of anymore I would appreciate the heads up. It can't hurt to stimulate conversation. I am open to blues, jazz and surf too.

    Thanks for the introduction.

I'd like to recommend "Sometime Tuesday Morning", "Driven" and "Get Inside" by Johnny A., "El Dorado" by James Wilsey (who used to play guitar in Chris Isaak's band Silvertone) and "The Return of Randy Dynamite" by Randy Jacobs (a funk instrumental album by this great studio guitarist).

Enjoy! And if you do, let's hear how you like those.

Wilsey's album is probably the best instrumental album in history.

My favorite is Buckethead. Definitely not for everyone and his music is VERY ECLECTIC.

  16. You're probably already familiar with a lot of the great classic surf guitar instrumentals but how about Japanese eleki (Ventures inspired) music?

For jazz, Grant Green was already mentioned, but you can't go wrong with him IMO. Idle Moments and Green Street are classic ones to start with. Wesley Burrell also, Midnight Blue being a classic starter. Some of Bill Frisell, already mentioned as well, might be a little more similar in vibe to things you'd already mentioned, but if you like a spacy/psychedelic vibe Bill Frisell, Dave Holland, and Elvin Jones is a personal fave.

Non-jazz and more similar to what you've mentioned would be some of Marty Friedman's solo albums: Dragon's Kiss for a very metal vibe, or Scenes, for a mellower, new-age feel.

    Trevor Rabin Jacaranda ( Rock /jazz tinged ) Great Yes's 80's
