Explosions in the Sky. Three guitarists (and a bassist that they've added in the last five years), and a drummer. Their music is incredibly epic, phenomenal guitar playing, and they are really great live too. Their album "The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place" is fantastic. Highly recommended.

I was gonna post on Gatton myself, good call. Personally I'd recommend either the compilation HOT ROD GUITAR, which helps give a sense of the amazing breadth of talent he had - as well as this amazing collaboration with Hammond B-3 wizard Joey DeFrancesco:

    Here's another fusion favorite:

I also really like his collaborations with Bill Frisell:

(Scofield and Frisell tear it up as part of Marc Johnson's Bass Desires group)

GRACE UNDER PRESSURE (Blue Note), with Frisell as front-line partner.

Remember seeing him at a club on Long Island back in the early to mid 90's. Never really followed him. Maybe I should see what he's been up to for the past 20+ years.

More in line with straight ahead rock Ronnie Montrose The Speed Of Sound ('88). Saw this tour with Alan Holdsworth on the bill as well. A great show.

Jeff Watson The Lone Ranger ( cheesy album art) Alan Holdsworth & Steve Morse each play on a track. More rock but some cool acoustics on there (a little bit)

Greg Howe (with Victor Wooten & Dennis Chambers) Extraction is Jazz tinged

Back around 2009 or so I stumbled up0n a Japanese guitarist by the name of Katsu Ohta. Very much in the vein of a young Yngwie. At the time he had released a cd called "Eternal and External". The release was a mix bag for me, but there are some great tracks tracks on that one. I don't really have any album recommendations, since I'm not sure what he's been up to since.
