Instrumental Electric Guitar Music

Nguyen Le is a very cool guitarist. I particularly like this album of his the best:

You’re welcome. Yes, Le’s ACT albums are definitely worth checking out. I also like Walking on the Tiger’s Tail (a bassless quartet), which would probably be my second most-listened to Le album aside from Bakida. His very first album Miracles with Art Lande, Marc Johnson, and Peter Erskine is also worth looking into.

Good call. Most of their albums are absolutely worth having. My fave piece by them, though, is "The Moon is Down" from their previous album Those Who Tell the Truth... Gets me emotionally involved every time, and it's a great example of why dynamics matter. The build starting from about 5:45 ranks among my favourite music by anyone in any genre.

 

Earthless meets Heavy Blanket, In a Dutch Haze. Not the best work by J Mascis or Graham Clise, but pretty good stuff AND its two LP,s four sides, one song with enough guitar to keep your ears ringing for days!

 

Los Straitjackets. Bizarro retro surf. Their best album is Viva! Los Straitjackets (if you can find it). This clip is from a different album.

 

Even though Eric Johnson's only known songs are his handful of instrumentals that got radio airplay, he is a solid singer and the albums Ah Via Musicom and Venus Isle are loaded with good songs with vocals.

 

Why the hell is it $80 on Amazon?

I listen to a lot of instrumental music, but a lot of it isn't guitar-driven (Mike Oldfield, Vangelis, Bo Hansson, Zombi/Steve Moore, etc.). I'll try to think of some that is.

 

It's pedal steel, but Bruce Kaphan's ambient recordings are just the ticket to re-wire a tired brain

The OP's thread title leaves it pretty open but the examples he gives are more in a rock vein and this thread is now traveling a very broad course over many other genres.

 

It is a little harder to come by and somewhat costly. To me worth it.

No clue why it's so expensive. It's only like $7.99 on download sites, but lossy only. Also, sadly, the mastering is atrocious - although I suspect the mastering is what gives the guitar sound that "bigness".
