I'd love to know if like I suspect, I'm the only member here who doesn't own any boxsets, either cd or lp.

I do own a 4-CD comp that came in a cardboard slipcase, but guess it doesn't qualify as a boxset. Apart from that, I've been never interested in acquairing any.

It's almost impossible, they'll get you when you least expect it. The Beatles mono box got me!

I only have this. It is in a box and appears to be a set, however. :)

How to resist if they are full of stuff that you can't get anywhere else (legally)?

I have quite a few. It's nice sometimes to work through them and enjoy an artist's career chronologically.

I'd say that counts. Any particular reason why you're not interested? You're missing out on some great music. Off the top of my head, I couldn't live without the Can Lost Tapes, all the Dylan Bootleg Series, the Stones' London Years and Springsteen's Tracks.

I did this with the complete Fela box I got last Christmas, it took several weeks and I didn't listen to anything else. I started it again the other day, but only got 5 or 6 discs in.

I own A LOT of box sets as sometimes they’re very well done and certainly make collecting easier (and cheaper). :righton: This said, I do own more single issues than box sets.

Question. If you own a box set like say the Complete Ornette Coleman on Atlantic, do you say that you OWN all of the individual albums when crossing things off a discography list?

Mostly the music I purchase anymore is either in a box set or special edition (rsd etc).

Just curious what the OP (and everyone else) considers the minimum number of discs in a box set? (I have a whole lotta 2-CD sets in slipcases with booklets, but I'm probably in the low double digits when it comes to larger sets.)

I crave cd box sets like morning cereal.
Still no big cd box Rolling Stones.
Settle for Decca period with bonus tracks, big book.

Mine says 57 CD boxes and 12 LP boxes. I don't count anything that isn't in an actual box, so multi disc sets in double jewel/slip cases don't count.

Does the Pepper 50th count as a box set? I have that on both CD and LP.
Also have The Beatles Mono LP and the Stereo CD box sets.
I have on pre-oder the Bowie New Town box sets on LP and CD but not the two previous releases.
Nothing else has interested me enough to get them.

Only a few: Steely Dan Citizen (couldn't resist it for $20 one day even though I had all the music already), Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble SRV, Led Zeppelin How the West Was Won (if that counts with 3 cds? As an aside is a true box 4 or more?). Then for jazz: Joe Henderson Milestone Years, Live Trane European tour, and several Mosaic Selects.

Let's see -- Monkees (4 different boxes), Grateful Dead, Beatles (2 different boxes), Who, Little Richard, Nuggets (3 different boxes), Zombies, Bowie, Stones, Bobby Fuller (2 different boxes), Beau Brummels, Gene Vincent. Oh yeah, one various Rockabilly box.

Out of curiosity - do you follow some strict "no-box set" policy for some reason, or you just never saw a box set that is worth having?

I got into Jazz after college when I was working in a record store circa 1993-1996. Rather than buy ALL the Miles, Coltrane, Ornette etc. individual albums I picked up the box sets at cost prices, or asked the label for copies.
