Someone brought this group up in a similar thread about a year or so back. Their first CD is quite good. Here is an hour long set from January in London. Excellent guitarist.

And here is Neal Casal from the Chris Robinson Brotherhood with his side project, Circles Around The Sun. Neal is pretty amazing, and so is keyboardist Adam McDougall. All instrumental. Their 1st album is jammy goodness.

Duke Levine - Country Soul Guitar and Lava. Two great guitar albums. Right there with the James Wilsey for me.

Shrapnel Records! Looks like they have sprung off Tone Center sublabel just for fusion.

I also streamed the Wilsey, excellent stuff. Wondering how I missed it first time around since I was enjoying his work on the Isaak albums. I turned up a single track of his on a Lyle Workman original score album (Stand Up Guys). It's called "Insomnia" and is influenced by Santo and Johnny's "Sleepwalk, " which is probably my favorite instro of all time. I suspect Wilsey may be the session guitarist on some other tracks on the album.

Thanks for the reminder about Friends of Dean Martinez. I haven't listened to them in some time but especially love their covers of "Wichita Lineman," "Warmth of the Sun," totally loopy take on "I Wish You Love," and a Bossa called "Swamp Cooler."

and... Yes, I see the saguaros dancing in slo-mo when I spin their stuff, though it might be attributed to one too many Tecates.

Thanks for sharing. More great stuff I didn't know about an hour ago...

Apple Music has four Duke Levine albums streaming:

    Nobody's Home
    - 1992
    Country Soul Guitar -1994
    Lava - 1997
    Beneath the Blue -2007

I clicked around the tracks of each and all seem to be of equal calibre.

For others -- this stuff just melts me in the best possible way:

I love how they give the music a chance to breathe. Sorta like classic Pink Floyd.

Several have mentioned John Antonopoulos or better known as "Johnny A." He is rather fantastic. He has had an interesting career path. I would hear him frequently on WBCN as a teenager with his very power pop outfit Johnny A's Hidden Secret. Now he has evolved to a very schooled blues jazz playing encyclopedia merging many different styles and idioms. My favorite is Oh Yeah!

And if this appeals to you it should also appeal to fans of Calexico who are represented within Friends of Dean Martinez

As an aside, instrumental guitar music is how I got into Jazz. I had a few of the guitar shredder albums in the late 80s by Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore etc. and asked a friend's Father if there were any similar albums by bass players. He pointed me towards the John Patitucci solo albums on GRP which led me to Chick Corea which led me to Return To Forever...
