    I meant recently, but yes.

I'd say they're almost up there with Robbie Williams and the Spice Girls.

And yet, Robbie Williams never sold as many album as Oasis, even in the UK.

Looks like Robbie Williams has sold quite a lot more than Oasis in the UK to me...

Adding up his Platinum sales takes him to x53 in the UK.

Whereas Oasis, it adds up to x37 Platinum album sales in the UK.

Looks like Robbie Williams sold quite a bit more worldwide too.

And The Spice Girls sold 15 million more albums than Oasis (despite being together for a shorter amount of time). I know Robbie Williams packed out Knebworth with 125,000 more people than Oasis did for a third day running.

  6. OK - Let's get to the nitty-gritty. Who has their own lunch box?

Worldwide sales for Robbie Williams are listed for a grand total of two albums on that list, both in the six million range. The two of them together still don't equal the worldwide sales of Definitely Maybe.

He's certainly sold more in the UK. They haven't listed "world" but only the UK in the sales section for many of the albums. You're looking in the wrong place - that's why you're only seeing the two that they have.
However...look on the right hand side, at the different certifications / countries. He's way outsold Oasis.

Robbie Williams hasn't only vastly outsold Oasis in the UK, but also worldwide.

This is why I said that they're almost up there with Robbie Williams and the Spice Girls. But maybe it's more a case of almost up there with The Spice Girls, rather than Robbie Williams. Oasis fall short on his sales to be almost up there with him.

I am laughing here, imagining you Google searching for rock band lunchboxes.

  20. It's very important. After all, if a band doesn't have their own lunch box, have they really "made it"? ;)

I haven't seen anyone mention that Kurt Cobain's daughter is apparently a huge Oasis fan. Just thought that was interesting.

He has also released 6 more albums than Oasis and more importantly he has been pretty much consistent with his popularity. Oasis had a huge drop off after album no3.

Are you sure about that? I think the figure you are looking at is combined singles and albums rather than albums. Oasis have sold more albums worldwide than the Spice Girls.

Though I'm not sure why the goalposts are being moved, the Spice Girls are not a band and they too were a huge act, the biggest pop band of their era.

Oasis did it first, proved it could be done. No one had ever filled Knebworth before and no one has had so many people apply for a gig before or since.
