32 years, not 22. ;) On a serious note, I bought Steve's mastering of Buddy Holly From the Original Master Tapes somewhere around 2003 and was astounded by how good it sounded on the first listen. This was early on in my CD collecting and audiophilia pursuits, and I didn't expect recordings from the '50s to sound so clear and lifelike. Everyone should own multiple copies of this compilation. :D

One has to be careful buying this title on CD. Early pressings released in the U.S. (Japanese and early U.S. pressings) were made from the proper master, but later U.S. pressings were not. As I recall, later U.S. pressings were made from an LP master. These later pressings sound good but definitely not as good as the early pressings made from the correct master. Fortunately, the early pressings can be found without much difficulty.

It has been a long time since I have read up on this title, so I may be a bit fuzzy one some of the details. I also don't know if MCA ever corrected this, meaning if they ever reissued the correct version in the U.S.. Also, I don't know if the switch to the LP master only occurred in the U.S.

Details regarding this title have been discussed here.

Cool interview! AT LAST I now know why Steve's Aqualung title song bothers me so much! ;)

I can get the 2LP set which is sealed and I imagine new for $19.99, have had the cd for years now...wondering if I should double-dip into the vinyl now that I'm addicted to records...
