My favorites are all 4 that I own - the 4 Dean Martin boxes. While I have much of the content on LPs and CD reissues, those boxes and the books are amazing. Such care went into putting them together. I've regretted some box set purchases, but never these wonderful Bear Family sets.

Very nice variety. When I was a small kid I used to lip synch to "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes"

Thanks to 'GodBlessTinyTim', I bought a copy of this and played it today. Absolutely incredible stuff from
an early Jerry Reed. His early Capitol recordings are stunningly recorded too.
I know have a greater appreciation of Jerry for sure.

I just scored a copy of "Ole Slewfoot," with picture sleeve. One of THE greatest records ever!

In 1988, Bear Family released an enjoyable 1CD entitled "Doug Sahm Live." Although the booklet doesn't provide a great deal of information regarding the specific show, it was a welcome addition to the collection of every Doug Sahm fan.

Just checked out a charity shop n town and came away with Duane Eddy: Twangin from Phoenix to LA, all 5 discs and cases but no box or book, I can live with that for £2.50. Got a bunch of other stuff but I'm off to the rock and roll thread with that lot.

I'm curious if most (if not all) of you are planning on keeping your box sets for the rest of your lives or if there are plans to eventually pass them off to others or sell to other BF collectors? I know some of you have certain box sets that I'd be interested in down the road!

There are a handful BF items I may part with some day, but I hope to keep the vast majority as long as I can. Just a couple box sets (none of which are OoP) that I've never clicked with, along with a few less-impressive Rocks series entries.

What is the consensus on the best place to get Bear product in the US now?

What a great find! Hopefully this Duane Eddy set will get you hooked and prompt you to buy the other Duane Eddy BF box set in addition to the back catalog of The Ventures.

Great question. As several of our friends on this forum predicted, prices on BF titles here in the U.S. have increased. In some cases, I've seen the retail price of a box set double in price.

Depends. Some I would never part with!

Why not put a Want To Buy ad in the classifieds?

I'm not sure I'd ever want to sell any of mine, I see my collection as my archive of, mainly American, music. It'd be like the British Museum flogging The Rosetta Stone. That might be a bad analogy as there's probably a few people who'd think they shouldn't have it in the first place!

But yeah, agree, try the Wants.

The above list was posted more than a year ago. Here are some other boxes that seem to be out of print:

Little Jimmy Dickens - Country Boy
    Various Artists - Tennessee Jive
Ernest Tubb - Let's Say Goodbye Like We Said Hello
Sons Of The Pioneers - Songs Of The Prairie

Does anyone know of other Bear Family boxes that are out of print now?

Just found out about this set of Hamburg Star Club performances, presumably from the early-to-mid 60's. Comes with a 90-page hardcover book in both English and German, and goes for a king's ransom.

Various - Die Ariola Star-Club Aufnahmen

It is definitely too expensive for me. But if anyone kidnapped a King and asked only $270 for his safe return, the Queen would probably say, "Keep him! He's all yours!"

A nice set. I got my copy years ago and need to listen again. That's the thing about the BF box sets, there's so much music you always have more to listen too. I've never reached the point were I'm tired of listening to any of the sets.

Currently I'm going back through the Del Shannon box again. Great sound, great music. I feel a big Fats Domino urge coming on starting with "The Fat Man".
