What artists from hugely successful bands went on to have zero success as solo artists? I'm talking no Top 50 entry's on any major music chart...both with singles and albums.

I believe Scott Wieland is a good start. Who else?

Mick's first album made the UK Top 10, I'm interested in knowing about solo artists that achieved virtually nothing.

I looked up Roger Waters chart results out of curiosity. Turns out he did okay, with all his solo studio albums landing in the top 50. Good on ya, Rog!

You could probably write a short book about King Crimson alumni who landed with a resounding thud on attempting to go solo.

Pete Sinfield's solo album didn't amount to much, nor did Gordon Haskell's first album or two. Granted, that might be too niche to apply here.

Kelli Ali from the Sneaker Pimps is one. SP had a Gold selling album and scored a UK Top 10 hit with "6 Underground". Kelli was soon kicked out of the band and released a few albums none of which have charted.

Not to mention the most successful tour ever undertaken by a solo artist. He definitely does not belong here.

Nick Mason on the other hand..

You're not wrong, but somehow Sinfield's album is still available almost 45 years after it came out. Haskell's had a successful solo career in Europe.

Elliott Easton and Greg Hawkes of The Cars have both released non-charting solo albums (Ben Orr and Ric Ocasek managed chart showings with their solo efforts).

This is a good thread question! :righton:

In the US, the various solo Spice Girls couldn't sell anything - but they all had hits in the UK, so I guess you wouldn't count them, right?

The album did get to #22 in the US - all on the back of that one song, granted, but at least it still sold!

A couple of Kinks-era solo songs went top 20 UK.

To be fair, Ray didn't try to be a solo artist until the Kinks were kaput, and that was at an age when any success would've been unlikely.

If the band had split in 1978 and he'd gone solo, I think he'd have had some success...
