In term of Paul Weller you need to go away and Google the word failed and then come back and post....

    Jagger.

Partly because I thought he would be so much better.

Paul, John, Rod and even Ferry succeeded.

His album did okay in the US. Just a Gigilo did well.

"Worst" and "failed" are attractive qualities to some here.

Both the ABBA girls had hits from their first albums, but they dropped off the map quickly. Somethin's Goin On from Frida did very well. Irony is both of those albums were reissued today on vinyl. I bought them, but I don't know if anyone else will.

Cliff Richard had a number of hits in the US, including a big one in Devil Woman.

That's kinda funny! Actually, Robin did very well overseas and had a hit in the US titled Boys Do Fall In Love which is a very decent song for it's day. Barry's album that MCA thought was going to be huge was a big flop, so you're pretty much right. MCA lost big time on that one. They were never nearly as good on their own.

    In case it wasn't mentioned:

    Frankie Lymon.

He left The Teenagers in 1957, egged on by George Goldner to go solo. He had one Top 40 solo hit out of the box, "Goody Goody," though some copies of the 45 were credited to "Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers." Reassigned to the Roulette label, Lymon made failed single after failed single, fell into heroin use, went clean after being drafted, married more than once, and - after a relapse - died of an OD in 1968, at the age of only 25.

Not sure how much the albums sold, but the songs are consistently excellent.

I think he did OK considering the times. All the young dudes was a big hit in 1990 and Tears of the Dragon and Man of Sorrows are widely hailed as classics among the fanbase.

He did a great duet with ONJ though. Too bad it was on her flop Soul Kiss album and not many people outside of hardcore ONJ fanbase heard it.

Quite fair. The first one was real good, the second one sucked completely.

While I think Mick's solo career certainly qualifies, 2 songs from Wandering Spirit became radio staples here - Angel in my Heart and especially Sweet Thing. I hear 'em just as often as Anybody seen my baby or Love is Strong.

I know how you feel. Hallelujah transformation from a great secret gem into an annoying TV banality is beyond tragic.

I know that several singles of both Frida and Agnetha charted but both ladies were lead singers of the biggest pop band in Universe, every single person on Earth knew them if not by name but at least as the "blonde and redhaired of ABBA" and the expectations for their solo careers could not been higher.

With Ross it's not about the Dictators. Outside of US where they cannot be arrested Manowar has a huge and fanatically loyal global fanbase, in my estimation equal to Metallica or Maiden. They sell out arenas and headline 500 000 strong festivals in Europe and Latin America. His solo records should have been massive among Manowar fans. But no.

Geri Halliwell was absolutely huge solo, probably not in US. I remember her first 4 or 5 videos on MTV 24/7.
