Well the simple solution to that is to not neglect proper back up procedures. :)

Let It Be 2009 remaster arrived in the post this morning.

I've also got Cloud 9, Communique and Shakin' Stevens - The Collection on order from Amazon UK!

    Lovely!

For people who don't care about sound quality, I guess not.

For the other 8 % of us , hell yes!

Same with BD and UD BD.

I have been buying CD's with a vengeance lately. They are the best deal going in recorded music right now. I rarely buy vinyl anymore. Bad quality for way too much money these days.

Since I got hooked on multi-channel mixes a couple of years ago, I'm buying more CDs now than I have in years. I just got 15 in the mail in the last week.

Rarely buy stereo CDs anymore however. Downloads are fine for stereo for me.

As is so often the case here at Blank Towers, pragmatism is the way forward.

Our internet is rubbish and, despite the regular blether from politicians and ISPs, is unlikely to improve in the foreseeable future. Mobile reception is also rubbish. Which means it is physical media all the way, predominantly CD as much of what I want to listen to is not available on vinyl and some vinyl prices are just extracting the urine (but that is another story). Downloading and streaming are just not happening here.

I should point out that we do not live somewhere way out in the wilds either, just in a place which is ignored.

I already have some large sunk costs in the CD/SACD playback chain and have no interest in spending money on more computer-based stuff to make ripping viable (a very basic router and 2 cheapo laptops cover our needs more than adequately and Strange Person I Live With spends all day with computers at work and barely wants to look at one at home).

If all those folk who scoff at those of us who still buy CDs are short of something to do they could lobby gubbmints and ISPs to make sure that all of us have access to the same sort of internet connections and speeds they evidently have and until then they can just shut the f88k up!

When I get that whizzy fast and stable internet connection I might think about using it to stream etc. Or not, depends whether I want to sink money into streaming devices or put it towards better speakers...

I'm collecting CD's now the way I collected vinyl in the 90's.
The discovery of a barcode search on Amazon was a revelation. Along with charity shops and eBay. £1 for a great mastered album. Stops me spending a fortune on vinyl.
The wife is more accommodating if a cd drops through the letter box rather than a record.
Although I have been spending a bit more than I would like sometimes.
    "Another CD arrived today"
"It only cost me a pound"
"What does original master recording mean"
    "Dunno!"

I'm a young guy who still buys cds because thats the format I grew up with. In fact I was somewhat surprised when looking at new vehicles recently that most don't even have the option of getting a cd player. Luckily my new Silverado is one of a few new vehicles that still have a cd player. It is however incredibly convenient to use my phones Bluetooth to listen to music in my truck. And lo and behold I find I rarely use cds at all when driving.

I've bought 42 already this year.

Lots of great sounding unremastered CDs going for very little on eBay and the like.

I order CDs from Amazon.uk but I rarely get them anymore. It's only the occasional. Weeks fly by 1..2.3.4.5.. It been like that since the new year. Perhaps I should call them, but then I have to speak English. o_O

I just received an order of 10 cds and box sets. Part of getting the CD for me is browsing the packaging (but that doesn't keep me from getting a CD if the price is right!). I think that people who buy LPs may be similar since there is much more room on the LP package for art and notes. If it wasn't for the brickwalled CDs around things would be OK!

The biggest benefits of an Amazon Prime account for me are:

    (1) The free shipping - I make tons of single item, low price purchases that otherwise wouldn't meet their non-Prime "free shipping" threshold. Plus, if you choose non-expedited shipping at checkout, you accumulate credits for future digital media purchases.

    (2) The "free with Prime" digital media streaming services - Amazon Prime has an increasing good digital media library (music, movies, and TV - including an exclusive HBO-content contract).

    Thanks for your response.
For me personally, I don't think it makes sense.
I am not a downloader/streamer and I get free shipping from them anyway, if I spend
    25.00.
They say it is 3 to 5 days, but they always ship promptly.

For me, streaming is a poor option because you can't choose which version of a release you get. You get whatever mastering they happen to have, which is often one that I don't want to listen to (e.g. horrible remastering, which in my view is worse than not having it at all).

It's much better to just buy the version I actually want on CD, which often arrives next day anyway, then rip it and listen to it on the device of my choice (but always through my hi-fi amp, naturally).

CDs have gradually disappeared from view, like porn mags or video rental stores or successful marriages.

    That line made me Lol.

On July 4th of this year I purchased a Miles Davis MFSL SACD. On that same day I started a Tidal trial. Since that date I have not been in a music store or purchased a CD or SACD. That may not sound like much of a period of time for some but for me that is an extraordinary period of time. I have all of the music I had been searching for. At this point it is new music looking forward. My original intent with Tidal was simply to use it to sample music and discover music for me to purchase. I may have changed my tune. At this point I think my purchase of music after 48 years of buying may have come to an end.

Bought a fair few from MusicMagpie in recent weeks. Very cheap and lots to choose from. Due to them listing the EAN number for every disc, you generally know which version you're getting too.:) Had a few Targets in my latest purchases.

What'd you get? Most targets wouldn't appear on Music Magpie however as they don't have barcodes.

I was put off for ages by their crappy, info shy ads on eBay.. The only problem I've had with them is sometimes the CD cases have seen better days. Easily remedied, of course.
