Really dig a bunch of the ones already mentioned. Just wanted to add the soundtrack to the movie Chocolat. For those unfamiliar with it, it kicks off with a Django Reinhardt song, followed by really evocative original score music by Rachel Portman.

I'll make the distinction between compilation soundtracks and those soundtracks composed for a film.

Three compilation soundtracks stand out: The Mambo Kings, The Harder They Come, and American Graffiti.

I think out of all Ennio Morricone's huge output, there are two standouts: Days of Heaven and The Mission.

While John Williams may be best known for the Star Wars soundtrack, his music for Empire of the Sun was quite good as well.

And how do you rate a soundtrack that has other singers dubbing the songs for the actors? The most famous ghost singer would be Marni Nixon, who sang Natalie Wood's songs in West Side Story, Audrey Hepburn's songs in My Fair Lady, and Deborah Kerr's songs in The King and I.
