Am seeing a lot of mentions of John Lennon on here as one of the `ALL TIME` great singers....really? Do people consider Lennon to be a `GREAT` singer?
Even John Lennon himself thought that he was not a very good singer, that`s why he put all that really annoying `ECHO` all over his solo tracks, and why Yoko Ono (bless her) had it removed from the reissued `Double Fantasy` album.

`As odd as it sounds, John Lennon never really liked his own voice.


He constantly pushed Abbey Road’s engineers to modify the sound. Thus, the Lennon we’re most accustomed to hearing is typically double-tracked (“Eight Days A Week,” “Tell Me Why”) bathed in 50’s style echo (“A Day In The Life,” “Come Together,” “Imagine”) distorted (“I Am The Walrus”) run through a Leslie organ speaker (“Tomorrow Never Knows”) or even reversed (“Rain”).

Yoko Ono, has chosen to remix the album they had just released when he was murdered in December 1980 — Double Fantasy — to focus more attention on Lennon’s voice`.

For male artists I have always been drawn to what I will call the more quirky voices so Neil Young and Bob Dylan. For female Joni Mitchell

 

Strange to hear the key brought down. The TV track she used was in the original key and she slowed it down. It's very obvious but she sings her face off. She's better now even than this.
