I didnt like Pi or Requiem for a Dream, but I adore Black Swan and most of all "The Wrestler." It's very very funny movie and my second fav Mickey Rourke after "Barfly." I love "The Wrestler."

  3. And he was great in Woody Allen's Vicky Christina Barcelona.

Wrestler gave the pugilistic thespian a much needed career kick start after been washed up and slighty dazed.

The whole thing felt engineered to get Natalie Portman an Oscar. Maybe I'm too cynical, but I was never on board with the character or the story, everything seemed superficial and predictable to me. I was surprised by absolutely nothing in the movie. *shrug*

Anyway, not much interested in this new film. Looks pretty by the numbers.

I thought Black Swan was terrifying because it was all about physical decline, rashes, broken bones, anorexia, insanity. Portman was perfect as the little ballerina battering herself to death and cracking up with an overbearing mother. One of Barbara Hershey's best roles after "Hanna and her Sisters" and "The Last Temptation."

Only good Natalie Portman film I like is Leon, and not because of her.

I thought the entire cast of Black Swan acted crazy.

    Hoping Mother will be better.

There doesn't seem to be much happening movie-wise between now and Sept. 15, when this movie opens, so here's hoping it's good.

You didn't like Michael Mann's "Heat"?

Portman has done many good films IMO.

Noah it was so weird at times I actually liked it. Ray Winstone Tearing his teeth into animals aboard the ark as a meal was fantastic! And the weird rock angels were awesome. So bizarre. But the family relationships got kind of wearying.

Two of my favorite critics have panned this, so even though it has a decent RT score I'll probably skip it:

Aronofsky hasn't made a bad film yet, so we're off to see this Saturday.

    The trailer?
    Not bad must admit.
Don't think R Polanski's got anything to be worried about.

I'm in. I appreciate quality filmmakers taking chances. Even if their chances don't always work. Always excited to a film written by grown ups, for grown ups. I've liked Aronofsky since π.

Also always happy to have two hours to look at Jennifer Lawrence.  And Michelle Pfeiffer.

Justin Chang at the Hollywood reporter gave it a glowing review and I currently think he's he best working reviewer. Smart and insightful and when he needs to be painfully honest. He calls the film genius so I tend to think it's not gonna be your traditional "Guardian of the Galaxy 2" baloney.
