Indeed...Sgt. Pepper just scraped into the Top 10! That was the only eyebrow raising result of the poll that wasn`t really a poll. With the permission of @bherbert, who started the Top 5 thread I suggested and announced that I would collate the first top 5 nominated by each poster into a poll. This was about 2/3 into the thread.

    Right to the poll results;
Fortunately I got exactly 50 albums by making the cut off point at 4 votes. The top 6 were only split by 5 votes, as you can see the voting was really close and it made it very entertaining for me tallying up the votes. Pet Sounds was 4 votes in front at one stage! The Beatles (as expected) have 4 albums in the top 10, a total of 6 in the top twenty. Bob Dylan has 3 albums in the top ten, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and The Who make up the rest.

I am not going to scrutinize the results because this was just a fun thing taken on by me as practice for a bigger poll to take place when I return from my holiday. This will start in September. The reason? Because I enjoy these things and because many people asked/said why only 5 albums? And there were many. Hmm, I thought why not and so you will be asked for your 20 favourite albums of all time, yes Twenty! I think this will make for more interesting results. Yes the top 10 may remain the same, I think there may be some shocks. Those who dislike this kind of thing can start a thread to moan about it. LOL richie.

The scoring for the poll below was 1 point for each album nominated. Over 650 albums were nominated by over 230 voters. I intend to make the scoring for the bigger poll the same as this poll but I am open to alternative suggestions, any complicated methods will be ignored!

So here are the results, number of votes each album received (in brackets), any mistakes are intentional! As I have said I am not going to perlustrate the results. I will do that for the bigger poll, other than to say critics may point out that the same OLD albums win every time. I say why not? Great Albums will always be Great Albums. Your views are welcome.

Yeah, Revolver is the critics darling these days. It's not my favourite, great as it is.

Not all that surprising, especially the top 20.
But I found it interesting that bands like Rush, Black Sabbath,King Crimson, Kiss, Aerosmith, Blue Oyster Cult,Deep Purple,AC/DC were not represented.

You'll get more people viewing this thread than voted in the poll.

Rolling Stone is no longer a viable option for rock music/any music. The next Poll will be the result of fans World Wide voting for their greatest albums.

Hey @Scope J if you couldn`t be ars%d voting for it what do you expect.

@Jimmy B. why didn`t you vote for it?

@Ryan Lux this wasn`t the `critics` voting it was the fans. Anyway where was your vote(s)?

Same with you @stax o' wax if you can`t be bothered voting for `Rush, Black Sabbath,King Crimson, Kiss, Aerosmith, Blue Oyster Cult,Deep Purple & AC/DC` how do you expect them to figure in the poll.
F.Y.I. all those bands had albums nominated that I expect to figure in the next poll where you can vote for your 20 greatest, although if you can`t be ****? to vote for 5 albums I don`t hold out great hopes for 20. :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::edthumbs::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

 I honestly don't know what to say. As far as Sgt. Pepper goes, its hardly a surprise that its mentioned but not at the very top. Everyone knows Revolver is the forum fave. The other heavys at the top such as Dark Side of the Moon and the inexplicably overrated Pet Sounds should come at no surprise either. Or that overall in the results there's a lot of classic rock.

    Shocking!

This is also to do with the demographics of this forum. Nothing wrong with that; but we could be deceived into underestimating how opinions in the wider world have changed.

I'm always taken aback and impressed at the obviously disproportionate presence of prog rock fans on boards like this. There's no other way to account for Thick as a Brick and Relayer as top 50 albums

Also, it's obvious there's a huge bias toward 60s/70s rock

I didn't vote either. Any thread that asks for 20 of anything is asking a bit too much. Who's got the time or patience? Not this guy.

The top ten looks pretty reasonable to me. Had I bothered to vote I'd have gone with NMTB, but I haven't spilt my tea in shock at the actual result and didn't expect much else than Beatles, Who, Dylan, Stones ... based on what's popular in threads here

To paraphrase something John Lennon didn't say, Revolver isn't the best album in rocknroll, it isn't even the best album by the Beatles.

To be honest, I think it's been in vogue to drop Pepper off its mantle for quite some time. Not to mention that it's perfectly valid to do so if one truly doesn't like it.

Yet between the awe-inspiring red deluxe box with the mesmerizing lenticular cover, to the stellar remix, to the numerous books that have appeared on shelves this summer, to the countless music magazines, and the enduring interest as displayed in numerous threads and articles, I'd say that "Sgt Pepper" is taking this news very well. :)
