    Hey Steve,

How many "Wesson oil" vinyl transfers have you poured
besides Dick Dale And The Del-Tones' Miserlou?

Well, did some Al Jolson that way, plus a few other 45's that I can't recall. Wait... Trickle Trickle by the Videos, Surfin' Bird by the Trashmen, and some other oldies where the tape was lost. Liquid Freon works. Sometimes just water works.

Yeah, SHE'S LOOKING GOOD by Roger Collins, that was Wesson Oil. I'll think of the rest today probably. Wait, TWINE TIME, Alvin Cash and the Crawlers.

Everytime the Pulp Fiction opening credits roll
I always picture a spinning vintage 45 covered in
    vegetable oil.

    Love TWINE TIME.

  6. So what's the logic in playing records wet? When do you used it and why does it work?

Apologies if this question has already been asked, but what would you say are the top 5 BEST sounding records of all time? Best mix, mastering, pressing, the whole nine.

Did you hear the remastered file, or just automatic no go?
Question....... I record at home with a Tascam dp24, (probably a joke to SH, lol)was wondering if you could recommend how to get a vocal sound in the ballpark of Pink Floyd (Pigs three different ones) particularly the lines -"You're nearly a joker, almost worth a quick grin"

I should probably experiment, but thought I'd ask anyway...Peace

Okay, maybe I missed this elsewhere...why did you need to use Wesson oil to master these? I presume the source was a record, not a tape?

The 2012 reissued remix of 'Star Trek - The Motion Picture', taken from the 1979 analog multis, is just astonishing sounding. I heard a sample on the Pono and had to buy the reissue. A really fantastic Bruce Botnick recording.

Seems to be a recurring theme here... Hmmm... I wonder if this could be the key to Mr. Hoffman's secret methods...?

I pre-ordered it on April 2012 and I agree with you, it sounds outstanding, the original album which was tracked and mixed-down on Sony digital equipment pales in comparison.

    Great thread.

Steve - are there any particular trends and/or technological developments that you see shaping future music recording/production? If so how? Perhaps different for mass-market and audiophile-type material.

    Hi Steve,

Are there any instruments, unusual or otherwise, that are exceptionally difficult to capture accurately on tape?

thank you - were the copies adjusted to accommodate the sonic capabilities for the different formats? I've heard ones for cassette would be limited, since the format was limited, to speed up production.

I'll answer you if you change your Avatar..

The submasters were always cut flat and furnished to the cassette duping place. The cassette duping place then made a bin running master to dupe the cassettes at high speed. That part of the process doesn't make fun reading so I'll stop here..
