The band's website is also currently featuring at the top a big graphic of the Automatic LP cover art and a banner reading "COMING THIS FALL." After the totally underwhelming Out of Time reissue--shockingly bad remaster, boring demo versions, screwed up cover art, no cards to at least make the packaging consistent with previous reissues--I'm not all that excited about this. I have the DVD-A and the Automatic Box of CD EPs, so we'll see. . . .
I believe this is in reference to The Olympia release but I don't think it's getting a vinyl reissue. As far as I remember, the email seemed to only specify a CD/DVD set.
Ah, okay. It would seem a very odd title to reissue on LP given the demands on pressing plants right now. I'd love if they did vinyl releases of the live sets issued on the recent set of deluxe reissues...that'd be kinda cool.
Definitely one of the greatest music records released by a US band in history. Deserves not a #247 rank but at least among top-20 in RS 'all-time-best-500-albums'.
Coming Nov.10 but no details at this time. Vinyl for me. 25th Anniversary Set For Automatic For The People (R.E.M.)
R.E.M. have been on my most listened to lately. Finally come to really appreciate this band. Also hope this comes out well.
I'd love to see how this new reissue stacks up with the last LP release with the Alsdorf stampers. That pressing is beatable but pretty damn good so unless it's done right, chances are it won't...
I seem to remember the Out of Time info being released in late August so I would expect the details to come within the next week. I guess the 40 Watt Club show is the only potential live show that could be used here. Hopefully, the demos disc makes up for that.
You sure don't sound like an R.E.M. fan. Peter said there would be a full 80-min. cd of demos for the AFTP reissue. Greenpeace concert, I don't care much, we already got it all during the Monster era.
The exact quote from Peter: "I just OK-ed an 80-minute CD of, I guess, the demos, but they were just things we were recording, building up to the record. There’s some cool instrumentals. There’s some cool vocals. I think there’s one or two songs that no one has heard. "
I'm a huge REM fan, and the OOT bonus disc wasn't very interesting, and the remaster was pretty bad. He's not wrong.
My guess: Disc 1 - remastered album Disc 2 - demos Disc 3 - B sides Disc 4 - 5.1 mix and promo films (DVD/Blu-ray)
For disc 3 I'd sooner expect some live performance... none of the reissues so far had b-sides. Other than that, probably yep.
Yes, despite being already released through the Monster singles, I'd expect the November '92 40 Watt show (the only proper live show of that era) to be the live release.

Works for me. I do wish they would gather up and release all their b-sides and scattered tracks on CD. Just re-issue Dead Letter Office as a box set and throw everything in there. But I'll be missing those b-sides on the Automatic box -- they're essential to my memories of the album. Also: I see "Photograph" made it onto the DVD. That's good -- it's a great song.
another release without a dvd option, huh? wow, maybe you just hit the nail on the head--the dead letter office deluxe edition (which would be fairly awesome). there're certainly enough b-sides etc to fill it up. smitquest
The B-sides are on the In Time deluxe issue. Crappy that they're not here, bur I'm sure that someone would have complained anyway had they been included. I'm looking forward to the new bonus material.
