The Waterboys - 7 A Pagan Place - 10 This Is The Sea - 10 Fisherman's Blues - 9 Room To Roam - 9 Dream Harder - 8 Bring 'Em All In - 7 Still Burning - 9 A Rock In The Weary Land - 9 Universal Hall - 8 Book Of Lightning - 6 An Appointment With Mr. Yeats - 9 Modern Blues - 10 Out Of All This Blue - 10 For the record, I really don't think my rating of 10 on the new album is "I waited eight months for this, I'm so happy it's out" - further listens keep revealing more and more to love. I have a really short attention span, the fact that this album can keep my attention for 96 minutes - and make it seem even shorter - is a testament to its strength. Trying to set my opinion in stone five days after the album is released, before my pre-order has even arrived in the mail, might not be a good idea, but man... this album shattered my expectations. Best Waterboys album? Erm, probably not. But best album created by someone 40 years into their career? Show me anything that can match it.
Room to roam 9 and as high as Fisherman is how I see it too. Room to roam is the most life-affirming and joyous expression of simple music-making I have in my entire collection.
Very few albums capture pure joy in the way that one does. However when I really sit down and scrutinize it, "Upon The Wind And Waves", "Islandman", and "The Trip To Broadford" are not among the group's best and I feel the album wouldn't be significantly worse without them.

Yeah, you're the second person who's said that, so I'm a minority. I just find the orchestra makes it too gloopy, and I only like half of the songs. I really like the title track though, and the b-side 'The End of the Affair' from the same era is my favourite song from Prefab Sprout.
