no, to be honest. and since there are some bad presses from what i read, i think that deagostini store is my safest option in order to get a replacement. now, how i will manage to get em shipped to greece, is another matter...
Try ebay, I wouldn't go for the DeAgostini website from Greece. There are people selling new versions for UK 10.99 so if available buy them.
I mean DeAgostini versions on ebay for 10.99. I wouldn't go for e.g. DOL versions which may be the "bad presses" you mentioned.
apologies for my ignorance but what are the DOL versions? the 11 pounds deagostini versions on ebay, have 10 pounds shipping cost to greece unfortunately...would be easier for me to find a friend from uk that would get the lps i need and ship them over to me with much lesser money...
Mitt Jackson isn't the greatest record I've ever heard. I like it. Would be interested getting the stufff he did with Coltrane. The quality of the vinyl is very good. I am sure most on here would ****e all over them as some are digital sourced. The purest in me wants to say I can't listen to such but I have listened to them and they sound good, very quiet vinyl. I contacted De Agostini and they said they were sourced from the original tapes when they could and digital when they couldn't. I would image for the most part they are digital but I remember two vinyls that said something about being from the original masters , maybe it was Henderson record.
wooow thank you for that insight. i would be grateful as well if someone posted which are analogue and which digital sourced. i would email deagostini, but i already emailed them asking if they ship to greece and i havent got a reply yet and its been days...
I'm pretty sure the big record companies will still have the original masters in storage, except where they were lost, for example some Impulse masters when they moved to California. Even though many recordings were remastered to 24 bit digital for CD, these would need to be reworked again for vinyl. I can believe DeAgostini. In fact a good comparison I made was Coltrane's Blue Train from DOL versus DeAgostini. The DOL one mastered from a standard CD was not good in comparison.
I saw Milt Jackson with The Modern Jazz Quartet sometime in the late 80s or early 90s and was pretty underwhelmed. I also have the Bags and Trane CD and wouldn't bother ....
Joe Henderson, Page One just arrived. Nice album, especially the classic Reid Miles cover. Disappointed for the first time in the vinyl quality, not enough for the hassle of returning though. Awaiting the arrival of Misterioso.
Was posted by someone earlier, the next two will be Ahmad Jamal At the Pershing and Mingus Mingus Mingus. Don't know after those.

That would take them 'accidentally' sending me the next five digital copies again. Could happen, but hasn't since that last glut
I'm coming late to this series (just bought Time Out from ebay), can anyone let me know if they come out on a regular basis (i.e. When should I check in my local WHSmith), what's the cover price to buy a one-off from the newsagents and has Sidewinder been released? I'm working through the thread but if someone could answer those questions that would be great
They come out fortnightly on a Wednesday. Sidewinder hasn't been released yet. Indeed by Lee Morgan has. If is worth checking WHSmith but if your local one is anything like mine, they'll only get one copy and quite often none at all. They are £14.99 each. The pressing and mastering quality has been consistently great. Considering the effort that's gone into this series, it's ridiculous and frustrating how difficult they make it to get hold of them.
Thanks for the quick reply! I remember seeing them advertised on TV and am kicking myself I didn't start buying them when they came out. At £14.99 though it's cheaper to buy them from ebay from people who are reselling from their subscriptions. The only thing with the ones on ebay the photos show some of the covers to be badly creased from the outer wrapping and I think the cover photos of jazz albums are often great in themselves so would be good to find copies that aren't so badly creased.
They've often turned up creased in WHSmith. Some I haven't bought because of that. They don't show up on eBay often. They are well packed when ordered from DeAgostini's site with free postage, but they take about 3-4 weeks to arrive, even though they are only sent from Newcastle. Personally, I've hated every aspect of dealing with them.
Yes, you’re quite right, 14.99. But can anybody remind me why I’m paying 15.99 per issue on subscription? For the wonderful zippo lighter?
I've subscribed from the start. I know people have had some issues with dealing directly with deAgostini, but it's worked fine for me (aside from a ridiculous mix-up with the first magazine). Get two delivered every month in perfect condition. If you don't mind the long wait (usually 2-3 weeks), you can get any back issue from their website, free delivery. I guess you got the digital magazines added on?
No, I didn’t. I think I signed up for "free" gifts but I don’t really remember. I got a lighter and....did I get stylus cleaning fluids etc? Nothing for ages. Not interested in digital magazines. Seems extortionate to go on paying an extra two quid a month for some junk I got ages ago.
