I didn't know there would be enough fans of his comedy to justify a documentary to be made. A bit of a surprise, I must say.

I'll see this. I know very little about him other than the stage image and wouldn't mind a peek behind that.

Did not know about this, but I will definitely see it when it comes to cable.
He was one of the best guests on the Howard Stern show.

The guy is seriously a fruit cake, and tales of actions resulting from him being a tightwad are nothing short of insane.

I would guess the audience that enjoyed the documentary The Aristocrats (huge doc for comedy nerds) would probably enjoy this very much.

Interesting. I first remember seeing him on an early Letterman appearance and I couldn't quite figure out what was going on. He had his schtick down by then, only a few or so years after being a cast member on the disastrous 80-81 season of SNL. On SNL he hadn't developed that 'character' or whatever he is. He was normal, and it's really weird seeing those clips.

I dunno. I didn't particularly think he was the best thing in the movie.
I had to stop the movie at least twice cause I was in pain laughing and tears were rolling down by face. But by the end, I almost lost interest.

Missed opportunity here - shoulda hired Fran Drescher to narrate.

"Dice Gottfried" on the old Stern channel 9 show still kills me.

I've noticed we've seen him out-of-character lately a lot more often than we used to.

That trailer looks really good though. I'll watch this movie.

  19. I also recall a mid-'80s Letterman performance, notably for a bit about travelling to Canada and being forced to accept a bottle of maple syrup.

    Who was the narrator?

From what I see, no narrator is credited. But Fran's voice is perfect, because, with respect to Les Nessman, a voice narrating documentaries for film, must be rich, and full, with mellifluous, round tones.

Gilbert Gottfried reading Fifty Shades of Grey is possibly the funniest thing I've ever watched on YouTube.
