I'd be surprised if rights were a concern at the time.

Andrew Oldham would be the person to ask.

I've noticed that in the track listing of "Stary Cats", next to the titles of We Love You and Dandelion it says "(single version)". But these two songs only appeared as singles (apart from compilations), so are there different versions? and if so, where can they be found?

I think the mono Single versions have the tags at the end that the stereo versions lack.

Those are mono. The stereo can be found on More Hot Rocks.

So "single version" just means they are mono? It's an absurd indication then, considering it's the mono box and a compilation of non-album tracks.

"We Love You" has a different ending in stereo.

Listening to Buttons mono disc now. While my vinyl box still remains sealed. I know I know.....just still so happy with the CDs.

I've debated cracking that thing for awhile. May just stay sealed.

I cherish this set. Might be fun to get back to the 2002 stereo CDs or original vinyl or some reissue vinyl cuts again one of these days.

I think they mark those as "single version" because of the endings. The ending of WLY contains a few starting bars from Dandelion and vice versa. Those endings were cut off for compilations as far as I remember.

:righton: I purchased the box from Amazon this week (saved points until I was able to have it for $66). And wow. Years of pleasure ahead.

Apologies if this has been asked. There are 170 pages here :). Is this set worthwhile? Is the sound quality great like on the Beatles Mono box? Are the songs from the master tapes?

It certainly is worthwhile, and although it's accepted that is it's digitally sourced, it doesn't sound it and it even gets the seal of approval from Michael Fremer, who says the new pressings equal if not better the originals.

No one knows (except for ABKCO).

I'd assume that since the set didn't sell as well as ABKCO had hoped, not anytime soon (if at all).

Do the U.K mono and US mono versions sound different? Is the set not too cluttered with the same songs?

As to your first question, do you mean like UK and US Aftermath? If so, the US has slightly longer fades on some songs. That's about the only difference that comes to mind.
An emphatic yes, in answer to your second question.

Thanks. I am tempted to buy the set but what's the point if I have the 80's cd's? I would have to spend money on a bloated box set. Cheers

Well, they do sound a lot better than the 80s CDs, for the most part, as do the 2002 remasters.

It depends on which 80s CD...

Hang on, I can do you one better:

A certain lad from Liverpool mutters one of his classic random phrases (keep in mind, during the last LP he made with his group, he'd open and close takes of classic tracks with things like "Cranberry Sauce" and "Sugar Plum Fairy")

If you didn't get the 2002 or 2006 rebook versions thereof, this would give you some different mastering and version choices although with the Stones it's never just one set or the other you need.

Is that John Lennon at the very end?
