At this point, I wish Neil would reform the Springfield, or start working wih Nils again. He needs a foil, not syncophants.

Considering the worries many of us had about Neil in recent months, the clip above is great news on its own. But it seems that the Hitchhiker had prodded him to attempt a major work again, so it's a good news day.

Deciding to write a major piece of work does not mean you will actually write one. That's just not how things work.
I hope he does though, it's been a while in my opinion.

Good ol Neil. Like many things in life it's always possible, but extremely unlikely.

True, but if your name is Neil Young you have a better shot than most.

Why? So he can alienate half of his fan base? Yeah, we need another album of angry rants and empty sloganeering at this point in time; that'll help bring people together.

That said, you'll probably get your wish.

I thought he was just referring to himself being a visitor back in southern Ontario, which he is tonight for his induction to the Canadian Songwriter's Hall of Fame. But you may be on to something...

I wouldn't be surprised if Neil never records or tours again with Crazy Horse. I think he looks at them playing/recording around him and he sees himself in them as an old man.
However, with Promise of the Real, he sees youth, feels their energy, and they are damn fine musicians as well.

What concerns were there with him in recent months? I must have missed that. Yeah "Visitor" certainly sounds like it's inspired by immigration debate doesn't it? Plus he's one half Canadian and the other half West Coast, so I think I've got a hot take on what angle he might take. I'm more into secular Neil myself.

After the last go-round with the Horse, I'd be happy if this were true. What a huge disappointment that was. If he ever does work with them again, I hope he resurrects some of the feel of Zuma or Sleeps With Angels. The 30-minute long noise freakouts are sheer tedium -- he's beaten that approach into the ground.

you really think Lofgren or Stills will say to him, go back and write a better song, not what's off the top of your head? they'll be thrilled if he calls them, and then do what he tells them.
