Love that movie. For better or worse, Daniel Stern's character is a window into a lot of people on this forum. :targettiphat:

  7. I don't watch the whole movie anymore, but when I want to hear those songs, the Criterion Blu-ray is my go-to, so I guess that counts.
Same thing with "Help", by the way.

That was a terrible list. Maybe 3 movies on it that I would rewatch.

  11. Most of them I wouldn't watch once, never mind rewatch. "Spice World"? I stopped reading right there.

For me, "The Cannonball Run" is always in there. It ain't high art, but I don't care in the slightest!

One movie that hasn't been mentioned yet is Sideways. If I'm flipping channels and its on, I have to watch at least a little. It helps that it isn't really on that often (unlike, for instance, Shawshank Redemption).

I watched Bullit several times recently. It's a beautifully crafted movie, everything works: the plot perfectly modulated, Robert Vaughn almost goes over the top, but not quite. McQueen saying as little as possible throughout (and its very very little) and apothesizing his personna. The decision to shoot in real locations really does imbue scenes with authencity, especially the hospital. And that moment early in the car chase when McQueen's Mustang appears in the rear view mirror is one of the great shots in all cinema.

Baffling why there was never a sequel. The story has a clear resolution, but some of the deeper issues remained unresolved. Or just seeing Bullit on another case would have been interesting.

I thought of another one that find myself quoting so much in real life, certainly as much as the one's from my OP.

It's amazing how much great, memorable comedy Ramis, Murray, Reitman, Candy, Blum have all had a hand in. This would be my 'bubbling under' choice. :)

  16. The three movies I have watched several times:

    The Wizard of Oz
    The Godfather
    The Godfather Part. II

I applaud your choice of the Lubitch film. My list would include Trouble in Paradise and Design For Living.

Also most any classic Universal horror flick. Many screwball comedies. Most Bogart films. Long list.

    I'm a sucker for sentiment:

    1) Doc Hollywood
    2) Dave
    3) The Silence Of the North (I love the Neil Young song "Comes A Time" as performed by Lacy J. Dalton -- Not available on DVD, but I have the LaserDisc)
