KW is not a must-have album for me, but I like the kind of "60's lounge music" that SOS makes and KW was the album with the most singles I know on it. I like the album from start to finish – not a bad track on it – but somehow it doesn't have that sparkle that makes it truly awesome. Although it does have the best artwork of all their albums, IMHO (shouldn't be of influence, but of course it is :shh:).

So I'm intrigued by your response and will find me some time to listen to It's Better To Travel. Thanks :righton:

That used to be one of mine. Haven't played it in a while

    Mine are..

Blood on the Tracks. I played it a least once a week for about 15 years.

The Wall. Bought it when it came out. Now have 10 different versions. Saw the Pink Floyd live show 1981, saw Roger waters do it the night Gilmour appeared etc. etc...

IBTT is much more a creature of the '80s stylistically than KW, and its callouts to the '60s are considerably less obvious. Love the mood they try to conjure up on KW but apart from "The Waiting Game" - which has a solid melody and a great chorus - nothing really seems to flow or stick. Whereas I think every track on IBTT is memorable, and really way beyond that - I think most of the tracks are single-quality.

"The Waiting Game" should have been a much bigger hit, though. It plays like some long-lost 5th Dimension track.

Love's Forever Changes and Big Star's Third. Both were under the radar when first released, but are now getting the recognition they deserve. Forever Changes is my all-time favourite album while Third is definitely in my Top 5. Forever Changes has it all - joy, despair, social commentary, beauty, darkness, etc. I never skip a track and it works as a whole. The unique thing about Third on the other hand is that it never had an official track selection nor a proper running order which makes it great fun to come up with my own! Currently, I leave out the cover versions and sequence the tracks starting with Kizza Me and ending with Take Care. Perhaps I should start a thread solely to discuss this!

I listened to IBTT and the blatantly 80's sound is putting me off. I personally don't like all those digital synth sounds (anymore). I think I would've liked this album better if I would've heard it in the 80's itself. Nowadays it sounds to me like it didn't age very well. I like the sound of Kaleidoscope World better. Surrender is still an awesome track, though!

Discounting long serving favourites by Beatles, Floyd, etc.,
and counting albums that have had a concentrated enthusiasm over less years,
    the three albums that I have been 'obsessed over' since discovering them and acquiring copies in different formats are;

The City Now That Everything's Been Said
Pre-Tapestry Carole with Kootch and then hubbie Charles Larkey and Jim Gordon.
Produced by Lou Adler, Ode Records. Sounds like what The Mamas & The Papas would sound like if they were a band (instrumentalists) as opposed to mainly a vocal group.

    Rupert Holmes Widescreen
1974 debut from composer of later Escape (The Pina Colada Song) behemoth hit and multiple Tony winner for Edwin Drood.
Imagine a more urbane 1974 Jimmy Webb or Randy Newman, but better.

Miles Davis Jack Johnson (Film Soundtrack)
My favourite Miles album. McLaughlin really cooks on this.

I reckon I play these at least once a week.

Well, KW is pretty loaded with those as well if memory serves, but I think there are more real strings and other acoustic instruments on it as well.

Keep in mind there's good '80s and then there's crappy, overbright, shrill product. I'd definitely class IBTT in the former category.

There are actually quite a few albums I keep coming back again and again:

These are just a two of them:

    Sandinista by The Clash
There are so may experiments on this album. A lot of different genres and even production techniques united on one very long album.
Many songs sound very different but The Clash also manages to make them sound similar enough...
Its all a little bit paradox on this, but I really enjoy it and discover more and more with each listening.

Songs of Love & Hate by Leonard Cohen
This is a dark LP, like really dark. Actually it is so dark that I started to see a lot of bitter humor on it and I even laugh sometimes when hearing it.
Funny or not funny a great album.

At some other time I'll write down more of them!

I seem to have bought more copies of David Bowie "Heroes" over the years than any other album. I guess that counts, doesn't it.
