What are they doing to it? (serious question, didn't hear of any changes)

Yeah, I'd like to know too. And also why in your signature you state that you hope they go out of business soon.

I almost bought the Beatles 1962 Red "Love Me Do" single from Discogs. I thankfully asked because it turned out it was a 1980's repro, but the seller used the 1962 picture.

Yeah, add me to the chorus here - what's going on with them? Had some good experiences, would hate to think that's going away...

Well I finally get to join the ranks of buyers who've had a really bad experience on Discogs lol

A few weeks ago I stupidly broke my own rules for buying on Discogs and that resulted in me buying a record from a new seller with no sales and I did so without emailing them to confirm they actually do have a white label promo for sale and not the stock copy. Even the sellers name should've been a clue. Not to mention the great price.

The record arrived today and what do you know, stock copy. Even worse, the record was listed as mint and it is not mint. So keeping the stock copy wasn't an option.

So I sent him a message via discogs. No reply. Sent him a message via paypal. I didn't actually file a claim, I just sent him a message requesting a refund because he sent me the wrong record.

Well he didn't like that. He actually escalated it to a claim himself! Of course he added that "I was trying to rip him off" and that I was being "fraudulent" because they sent me the record as listed so I was clearly lying. It's so annoying when sellers react that aggressively right away. You know it's just going to be a pain to work out.

I tried to add comments but it's actually under review with Paypal. So I hope they just refund my money without further ado. They usually stand by sellers but I've never had an experience where the buyer has retaliated with accusations of fraud and trying to "rip him off". I worry that Paypal might take his side of things.

Ah well, let this be a lesson to me and others. Don't break your own rules!! If I had just followed my rules I would've avoided this mess. :)

Not always! I once left some negative feedback for a seller who really deserved it, and I stuck to the facts. He whined until management removed it. Follow-up complaints on my part fell on deaf ears.

All that said– my luck shopping on Discogs has been (and continues to be) just as good as anywhere else I have shopped online.

Myke Trying Not To Spook The Horse

I'm beginning to get pissed, I bought a sealed, way OOP album Saturday night, and all seemed fine. Great feedback, a little conversation, a deal brought on by my wanting him to ship Priority.

" Thanks, Mike - I'll get this out the door Monday " was one of the last things he said.
Last night, Monday, I ask for the tracking number. He responds politely that it will be on Discogs, " as soon as he gets back from the PO. "
Now it's Tuesday night, 7pm in FLA, where he's at...no status change to " shipped," no tracking number. Nothing.
In his bio, he tells of a heart attack, and selling his record collection to feed his kids. Again, his feedback is positive.
    I'm out $ 140.00, unless I open a case in Pay Pal.

Tonight I tell him I'm getting anxious here, and remind him he said Monday.

His response 2 hours later : " Yep my bad. Tomorrow come Hell or high water. Thanks for the reminder. : ) "

If his claims of the heart attack, losing his career, losing his life savings, and selling records to survive is all true. You'd think he'd take it a little more seriously.

Well, this looks to have worked out. He refunded my $20.00 for shipping, and sent it 2 Day Fed Ex.

Glad it worked out. Based on what you shared, the seller seemed more slow than shifty. Hopefully the condition will be as described.

Well my case was resolved in my favour. I left negative feedback for the first time on Discogs. I noticed that the sellers very first feedback was also a negative one. Mine is his second negative feedback but also in total. New seller that only started selling on Discogs 20 days ago. I think they're going to have a lot of issues judging by the first two feedbacks.

Worst experience I've had is a seller that sent me a Dutch pressing of a US album (completely different label color). His solution was to refund me the difference given current discogs prices for the US, or have me send it back for a full refund. I was more than a bit annoyed since it puts the pressure on me to deal with a bad situation. The record was very well graded so I decided not to leave any bad feedback. But perhaps I let him off the hook too easily. I wonder what other buyers would have done.

In the past I've worked out partial refund deals (I never ask though I leave it to the seller to offer that sort of deal first) if the difference was close enough to what I could sell locally. So if, for example, I spent a total of $30 and they offered to refund me $15, if I could get $10-15 for the record locally then I might go for it.

Other times the record is too badly graded for me to attempt to sell at any price so I just send it back. Now that paypal offers to cover return shipping (with some conditions and limits) returning a non-eBay purchase is just as easy as returning an eBay purchase.

A lot also depends on how much of a jackass the seller is being. If I get attitude right from the get go I just make a claim and deal with it through official channels. I can't be bothered to be too nice to someone who isn't going to reciprocate.

I'm beginning to think this way too. The grading on used CDs seems particularly bad, and too many sellers are lazy or do not care about entering early pressings under the correct listing.

Are you buying records on discogs to re-sell?

Confused as to why you would ask that based on my post?

Because he's mistaken your selling a record locally to dump it, for buying to flip.

I keep a low profile seller account on there, listing slow movers that can be there at no cost to me. The other day I sold two items that'd been listed for two years for example. For higher demand items I list on eBay where I get much better prices as buyers will pay more for correctly graded nice items -- there is no way to tell what you're getting on discogs and items land there when not good enough to sell on eBay (or the seller has already been squeezed out due to bad ratings). Seller rating means little if anything on discogs. The buyers are not much better there either, bunch of lowballing skeezers trying to buy so they can flip. In other words, if they are not getting a bargain they can make money on, they complain after the fact where they try to talk down prices they already paid for correctly graded items. So it works both ways. Discogs sucks for sellers which is why good ones sell on eBay and discogs as backup. I don't recommend buying there based on lots of experience.
