They told Richie Havens to "keep playing" as they were trying to finish building the stage. He ran out of songs and ended up creating this gem on the spot:

There are so many apocalyptic performances at Woodstock, but this tops them all.

If I had to pick a single song, it would be Crosby Stills & Nash’s performance of “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.” I love the energy that version of the song has

    Mountain- Southbound Train

Mountain's 4th show ever, Felix Pappalardi and Leslie West slaying it.
Listen to that West sustain at 3:30 with Felix's fuzz bass rumbling underneath.

Hendrix's "Woodstock Improvisation" is one of the coolest pieces of music that came out of Woodstock.

The most transgressive, and, therefore, the most interesting performance at Woodstock:

Unlike Monterey, Woodstock had less stellar performances musically speaking. Of course, Woodstock's impact was far superior nonetheless.

My favorite performance in Woodstock was by CSN&Y. The sheer enthusiasm more than made up for the sloppiness. I have heard that they were certainly not headliners, is this correct?
