@Say It Right here's the interview I was talking about! In July Roland was interviewed, he talks about the new album for Warner Bros., which even has a title, The Tipping Point. And he also mentions "I Love You But I'm Lost" as one of the songs from the new album. So who knows? Maybe this greatest hits set really is a kind of preview...

I find anniversary editions often come with a cheap bare bones option.

It has the a similar feel to the new Weezer album cover (Pacific Daydream). I wonder if it's from the same artist.

Just heard the new single “I Love You But I’m Lost” on BBC Radio.

I say this as a massive TFF fan - I didn’t care much for Everybody Loves A Happy Ending and I didn’t much like this either. It sounds like modern clubby production meets Coldplay - bland.

  6. Seems you can hear a 30-second snippet of the song (from the broadcast this morning) on this page:

    (Not much, but it's something.)

That new single is el-stinker-roonie! That doesn't sound anything like Tears For Fears or even anything else that I would appreciate hearing again.

I liked it. I think it has touches of Tears for Fears but more modern. The sentiment is cool too.

Is this the right band? I enjoyed it. Man, massive compression to the point of distortion... :sigh:

It's modern. Very Euro pop. Not actually bland enough for the American market!

Any idea if this will be a CD only release or perhaps LP as well?

My first impression is that it feels closer to Tomcats Screaming Outside than the traditional TFF sound. That's not necessarily a bad thing though since I really like the Tomcats album.

It does kind of sound like someone else as someone suggested. In that sense it's like "Floating Down The River", which made me think of another band's sound (the horns on that one really made it sound like Duran Duran's "Skin Trade"). But then I like "Floating" too. And the horns are there again on this new one.

It's too stadiumy. I wanted it to sound more down-to-earth, which is ironic because the artwork is people literally jumping down to earth.

  16. The Love You Lost song is pretty good, but unless there is really good mastering here, why should I have yet another compilation on my shelf? It's getting like The Who.

I like the song, it definitely sounds more like a Roland effort than a TFF band effort. Does Curt really play bass on there? I doubt it. Maybe behind the synth bass somewhere. I was actually expecting something more electronic. This isn't that far removed from some of the other electronics-heavy tracks they've done in the past. And produced by TFF along with three additional producers! Never heard of those other guys.

The new single is on iTunes today.

I like it but don't love it. Need to give a closer listen on good headphones.

First impression - doesn't highlight Roland's powerful voice too well.

Rolling Stone has a write-up on this: Hear Tears for Fears' First Song in 13 Years, 'I Love You But I'm Lost'

A couple of notes from the article:
    - "I Love But I'm Lost" will be also on their forthcoming album The Tipping Point
    -
Other songs titles for that new album are "My Demons", "End Of Night" and "Up Above The World"
    - They write that Curt "takes the reigns" on "I Love You But I'm Lost". That must be a mistake as I'm not sure I hear his voice on it at all! That's definitely Roland on lead.

That's my complaint. I feel like Roland's vocals are buried in the mix too much.

TFF with several producers? Something not right here. Sounds like record company execs pushing for a market friendly sound. If the rest of the new album is like this, count me out.

If they want to make more money, this is what they should do.

Remaster the last 2 albums so they're not brickwalled messes and release them on vinyl while you're at it. Great material which is unlistenable for more than 2-3 minutes at a time.
