I remember this song as a minor hit in 1987. I definitely remember seeing the group perform it on American television, somewhere or other. It's catchy; I've never forgotten it.
One of my favorites from the excellent Australian band----- Icehouse mesmerizing synth sounds and entional vocals create a very beautiful song. Icehouse- Trojan Blue 1982
I saw Colin Hay last year and HIGHLY recommend his show. It's a perfect mix of the MAW hits and some tremendous soundtrack work from the past 3 decades. He's also a helluva story teller to boot
Don't think this charred, but I remember once asking the well versed owner of my boyhood record store for a record by a group I'd probably never heard of. He handed me a copy of Visions of Excess by The Golden Palominos. Quintessentially 80s, but I love every bit of it. Michael Stipe guests on a few tracks, including the lead.
For whatever reason, I thought it would be funny to torment diners of a local pizza establishment with this song every time I went in there. I may have been personally responsible for keeping that record in there long past its sell-by date, possibly even into 1990. I was an obnoxious teenager. So, to anyone who ate at the Quincy, MA Papa Gino's between '86 and '90: I'm sorry about selection 143.
I've been (rightly) called out in this thread for posting songs that don't qualify as being forgotten hits, so I'm returning the favor. That being said, this is one of the most anthemic songs of any genre from the period, truly a unique standout, and I'm happy to hear it one more time.
The Band Night Ranger with Don't Tell Me You Love Me. A bay area band that really hit the spot with a front man with a lot of energy and great guitar work.
