I can't believe anyone puts up with the amount of commercial interruption on North American TV.

I started a thread on this subject once, and have the sense other parts of the world are not so pitifully complacent about the problem.

I'll take commercials over having to pay for TV any day of the week.

    What's a DVR, what's TV?

Don't watch much "TV" at all, NEVER had a need for a DVR, anything I really want to see I already have
on blu ray or DVD. :agree::shtiphat::agree:

The DVR is just another tool for "them" to spy on you. :)

I sort of weaned myself off TV once I got to college; no great reception that far north of Indianapapolis, no compelling programming aimed at all the "me"'s of the world. The Paper Chase started when I graduated, so me and pals would meet every week to watch. live. Shortly after, I purchased my first VCR (a Quasar, with 3 speeds; having a degree in TV by that time, I felt I deserved one, despite the cost); only intended to use it for time-shifting, and naturally got hooked on zapping spot breaks once the newness of critiquing every commercial wore off on me. TV hooked me again thanks to this miraculous invention, and I haven't really endeavored to watch any broadcast television in real time since.

To me a DVR was just simply another way of controlling television, so if I didn't have a DVR of course I would still have had a teevee. I just wouldn't've used it so well.

Nope, won't watch commercials at all, it's 2017, and If I want to buy something, I'll look for it.

Yeah, I mean you wouldn't want to accidentally lean about a product or sale that you might be interested in, right? :)

I don't watch a lot of television, but a good bit.
I have no DVR, no cable, no streaming services. My rabbit ears antenna gives me about 15 channels and that's good enough for me.
Commercials don't bother me, I just mentally tune 'em out.

Like most technology, never having "it" is never the problem. It's having and then "losing" a piece of technology that causes the problem.

Not having a DVR is only a "problem" for those who once had it and now don't.

    Yes. Exactly.
I rarely watch what’s on. I watch what WAS on.

I find the ratio of noise and nonsense to actual information in commercials is very low. As for the occasional entertaining commercial, seeing them two or three times is enough.

When I see commercials that usually annoy the crap out of me, I try to AVOID buying whatever they are advertising.:)

I can't stand to watch the commercials- they're so annoying (and there are so many). Now I'm just using the DVR to record the shows we're interested in, and I just FF through the commercials when we actually watch the show . Recently, my wife and I were watching a number of DVD's of late 1950's and early 1960's TV shows- fifty to fifty-two minutes of actual show, and only eight to ten minutes for commercials- my how things have changed.

I love the DVR for speeding through the commercials and for time-shifting. There's always something good on tv with my dvr loaded up with shows. :)

I know an hour episode of The Walking Dead with the commercials cut out runs about 43 minutes. Might not be the norm though as AMC in general is horrible for commercials.

Yes, but not as much because I wouldn't have the flexibility without the DVR.
