I sold two albums to a buyer visiting the state's last month. I normaly do not sell to foreign buyers. He instructed me to send albums to a hotel here in the NYC area. Everything worked out and I left positive feedback for him. Now after a month he has an issue with one of the albums, the album is NM shape. He doesn't like that their is a blemish on the vinyl. I never noticed anything, the record plays perfect, it's 40 years old, it's from my personal collection. I offered him $6 back for a refund even if I am in the right. I have a feeling he's going to leave bad feedback. He's trying to make another deal with me but I want nothing to do with this buyer. Can you block a buyer? I have 100% postitive feedback, I feel like there is no one at discogs to help me.

Maybe you left out some pertinent information but based on your post so far I don't see how this qualifies as harassing you even if it's a bit ridiculous to complain about a blemish that is not audible.

You have no choice but to deal with this buyer. What exactly would you block him for? For trying to work out a settlement? Unless this guy is refusing to accept any and all offers including returning the lp, then Discogs can't really help you here IMO.

If you block him, he'll complain to Discogs and Discogs will have an issue with you as a seller for not working out this grading issue with him and trying to avoid your responsibilities as a seller (based on their t & c's). In addition blocking him isn't going to stop any paypal claim.

He disagrees with your grading. You offered a partial refund which he declined. He wants more. Do you want to give him more? If the answer is no, tell him to return the lp for a full refund. Paypal will enforce that anyway and the buyer should be able to claim some of the return postage from Paypal.

Also, remember that you can appeal to have unjust negative feedback removed.

I'm giving him a partial refund to get him out of my hair, I truly feel this guy is con artiest. Why would you wait for me to give you positive feedback and then start BS with me about a condition of a record.
The record is like new, the record could've had a small blemish, I didn't see anything when I mailed it out, that doesn't mean it's going to have issues.
It was my record for many years, I had played tested it before mailing. He's trying get another record from me when he returns to the states. I don't want to deal with this guy anymore. I normally don't deal with buyers from other countries, only domestic.

You don't have to deal with him. Tell him you would rather not considering the last transaction

Regarding the previous deal... You have to settle that. My way out the highway doesn't cut it--regardless of who is right.

You need to offer to options- 1) a discount,: 2) the ability for the buyer to return the record for a full refund including outbound shipping. Whether you choose to cover return shipping as well is your call, but not doing so can result in negative feedback.

This is the reason I don't like partial refunds and have never offered them online. I also rarely gave them in my 30 years as a retailer. Only if it was the buyer's idea would I consider a partial refund. Otherwise a partial refund can leave a partially pissed off customer.

Just last week, I received a sealed album from a Discogs seller, where the record had broken through in transport, and caused a 3" seam split in the jacket. Not complaining, just communicating, I sent him a message :

" This reminded me to start asking for the record to be removed, before shipment again. Seam split across the top of the jacket, 3 inches. "

He immediately offered me a partial refund of 15%, which I accepted. Both satisfied, and open to do business again in the future.

The guy is making a big deal out of a small little blemish that I never noticed. The record plays perfect, it's from 1971. I truly feel this guy is looking to re-sell these in his country.
I don't care what he does with the records but a little blemish is nothing to make a stink about. It could be cleaned.

I had the buyer of a CD here raise a stink, because after looking at the playing surface under a bright light for several days without ever playing it, he decided he wasn't happy, and wanted a partial refund.

How did you describe the CD? I can't see the discogs grading guidelines right now, but I suspect there are some that apply to CDs.

By "here," I meant here, in the forum classifieds. And I grade conservatively, with high feedback.

Oops, sorry. I thought you meant on discogs. There's been certain situations where I've looked at a CD and thought maybe it's been buffed. Usually buffing leaves tell tale signs, but sometimes you can convince yourself that a spotless item isn't. Not an excuse, but some kind of reasoning why the buyer took so long.

I am wondering what % of the sale did you refund, you mentioned $6? I have settled for 15 to 25% refund for the few grading issues I have had with on-line sellers.

Discogs uses the following grading for vinyl. Would a blemish of any kind mean this grading should not be used? I am a CD guy so I am not certain how anal one should be when grading the black circles nowadays?

    Near Mint (NM or M-)

    Vinyl

A nearly perfect record. A NM- record has more than likely never been played, and the vinyl will play perfectly, with no imperfections during playback. Many dealers won't give a grade higher than this implying (perhaps correctly) that no record is ever truly perfect. The record should show no obvious signs of wear. A 45 RPM or EP sleeve should have no more than the most minor defects, such as any sign of slight handling. An LP cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits, cut-out holes, or other noticeable similar defects. The same should be true of any other inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves, etc.

How do you know what the blemish looks like? Did the buyer send you a picture of the blemish? If so, could you post it for us to see?

He never sent me a picture, I'm just going by his word. I sent him a refund of $6. The record was sold for $16. Frank Zappa - Fillmore East Live - 1970. NM pressing VG+ cover.
So far I have not heard back from him.
