As I recall the set was subsequently remastered for the box, but Sony used an older transfer for the white box. My impression is that these Sony white boxes are mostly older transfers, despite the 24-bit claim. I think they just put 24-bit on every box regardless of mastering.
I love that disc. I listen to Satie and think "The King of the Major 7th". I am not sure why that chord and interval affects me like it does but it does and I just accept it. Satie certainly used it to its fullest extent and in ways that no one else did before.
Yes they do. I enjoy giving a listen to things I've never heard before - never know what you're going to like.
That was actually what an electrical engineer friend of mine told me back in the mid 70's that most of the published specs for Japanese receivers were bogus ...
I attended a few concerts by the Philharmonia Virtuosi conducted by its late founder Richard Kapp a few times at the NY Metropolitan Museum Concerto Hall back in the early 2000's though I do not recall if my Greatest Hits of 1720 vinyl was actually recorded by that group as it has a different jacket ...
This performance of Op. 135 now rises to the top of my list-- just breathtaking-- L. van Beethoven: String Quartet No. 16 in F major, Op. 135
I remember reading a very uncomplimentary review in Hifi News and Record Review when that cd came out regarding his tempo.
The new release from the Naive label of the Quatuor Mosaïques' performing the late Beethoven string quartets.
Not so long ago I would turn my nose up at digitally recorded classical vinyl but this happens to be a very good effort indeed. Lots of air to the recording ... This double lp is one of my best charity shop purchases for some time! I also find the early Philips digital recordings very enjoyable.
Wow - Scriabin vinyl that I haven't seen before!! Thank you - that is going straight on to my 'watch list'
CD from the first Living Presence box. Are cello concertos the red haired step-children of classical concertos? It seems that piano and violin get more love.
Does anyone out there live in or near Portland? I just noticed that there is a tasty looking concert with the Portland Baroque Orchestra, November 17-19. English bassoonist Peter Whelan takes on a couple of Vivaldi concertos - I saw him play a similar programme in Manchester (UK) and found his performance absoutely masterly. Just one of those artists who seems to have an innate sense of the baroque … Music From Dublin Castle | 2017-18 Season | Concerts & Events | Portland Baroque Orchestra The reason I came across the concert is that I was googling the superb baroque violinist Monica Huggett to whom I was listening earlier, and didn’t realise that she has been the PBO's Artistic Director for 20 years … I’d be going if I was anywhere nearby!
It's weird but it's not visible to me in the post but it shows up in the quote when I quote your post.
