That's debatable. Really nothing apart from @notesofachord's suggestion quoted below. Personally I'd avoid Tanx and what came after - they are a dilution of the main event, but you'll want to check it for yourself. I'd look at Beard of Stars with the knowledge that Tyrannosaurus Rex do not have the same sound. Still great songs but folk-based. Steve Took provided great and invfentive accompaniment on the first three LPs and with the fourth Beard of Stars they went electric. Yes. All the singles from Ride A White Swan to Sold Gold Easy Action. Including all the fantastic b-sides.
I'm thinking . I have the complete run on my iPOD, but cannot remember where they are from. It's hard to find a small single compilation that spans from Ride to 20th Century Boy (with all the b-sides) because they were on two different labels. The boxset? This would give you a complete overview from everything to everything but includes all the singles on CD 2 and 3. I'll try and think of another smaller set. 20th Century Superstar Box set Marc Bolan & T.Rex* - 20th Century Superstar
I have the 2014 EU vinyl, which was available in the FNAC for just 10€. In my opinion, it’s anything but flat and lifeless. T. Rex - Electric Warrior
You could get one of these CD comps. But neither have all the b-sides This one is a-sides. Marc Bolan & T. Rex - The Essential Collection This one has a broad range and a few b-sides but the sequence is a mess. T. Rex - Greatest Hits Otherwise you could explore the two classic 70s comps Bolan Boogie and Great Hits on s/h vinyl or CD. But you won't get the all the b-sides. Fly era T. Rex - Bolan Boogie T.Rex Wax/EMI era T•Rex* - Great Hits And my second-ever-purchased T.Rex LP (which is really all Tyrannosaurus Rex material). T. Rex - Flyback 2 - The Best Of T. Rex
Someone suggested this Rhino compilation album for getting also the great B-sides. Because of some gaps I have in my T. Rex collection, I'm also thinking about what extra album at cd to get. Is that Rhino album fine to more real T. Rex fans here (also sonically speaking)? V T•Rex* - The T•Rex Wax Co. Singles A's And B's 1972-77
Well it's ok on it's own - but as soon as you put on an original UK Fly or the new KG cut - you would possibly have a different opinion.
No idea about sonics, but this collection is only the T.Rex Wax material. Ie. post-Fly, post Warrior. It does have the Slider-period b-sides, but misses Swan, Hot Love, Get It On and their b-sides. It depends what you want. The Rhino does go up to the end, I think – with things like Celebrate Summer.
I went through a not-so brief and very expensive love of T. Rex. I had his entire discography - LP-wise - but honestly I mostly listened to the glam-era Electric Warrior, Slider, and, to a lesser extent, Tanx. Also Bolan Boogie for the singles. The hippie-era stuff is an acquired taste - interesting but not something that always floated my boat. Post-Tanx material was rarely played. I've since sold off a lot these records, just keeping my favorites.
As I have said before, that is the same for the majority of Bolan fans. T.Rex in 1971/72 were outstanding.
Funny, I always associate him with that album for some reason. What album did he start working with Bowie?
Ordered lp from amazon us today 44 euro including postage .hope I dont get inport taxes. Looking forward to get this
Yes. He rejected Bowie twice - once because of the single Space Oddity, which he gave over to Gus Dudgeon to produce, and the next time because Bowie decided on Tony DeFries as a manager. He only returned when Bowie arrived at Diamond Dogs.
