I can respect that. For me, I like having the musical landscape easily accessible so I can enjoy every note every instrument is playing.
"Running Free", is indeed catchy little song but kinda basic(ish) of compared to some more ambitious songs on the album. But thinking how the whole early days of Iron Maiden were, they indeed had more that punky, speedy and fast-paced attitude in the songs. Anyways "Running Free" has got that punk-twist, almost biographical feeling present in the song, atleast feels like that. Great groove provided by Clive here. Maybe it was kinda weird choice for being single from the album, but surely it's got memorable singalong for concert-crowd. It's anthem and of course, it's one of the songs from the early days that everyone knows. I like the guitars (which yet again prove their skills) and great drumming from Clive. Bass is great but it's not yet what it will be later on, actually on the next album when we got Birch on board, then things will get to next level and next shift on. Like 11 on Marshall in Spinal Tap. Maybe it feels that Harris is somehow holding a bit back here, as it could have surely featured his trademark galloping sound for the bass, which would eventually be more in the spotlight of the soundscape. Enough of my ramblings here, this song works great and I think it wouldn't still need anything to be fixed or changed around.
I agree on Anthrax, they do awesome covers, but I've always found Metallica's covers really spotty, especially after the eighties.
RUNNING FREE Love the original version, but I think the song really came "alive" in concert, regardless of who was singing it. I love the "chuka-chuka" part where both guitarists are heavily muting their guitars and creating a percussive sound. It almost sounds like some wah-wah mixed in with it.
They do have some clunkers, for sure. But overall, I love their covers. Their “Sabra Cadabra” into “A National Acrobat” is unreal - this validates my feeling that ANA is one of the greatest Sabbath tunes ever
I love the original, so I'll check out Metallica's cover. But I think it's safe to say their covers from Garage Inc are total horsesh**.
Turn The Page tries to be good, but Met take it to an uptempo places that doesn't give the same vibe as the classic-for-life original (live version from Seger) with its smoke filled and grimy truck stop "strung out by the road" vibe.
Except for the five tunes from the Garage Days 5.98 EP. I love "GReen Hell." "Here in this place lies the genie of death" (I used to think he was singing "here in this place lies the key to your death.")
Odd, the Women In Uniform art was there for a minute, I saw it... This is the First Ten Years version.
Whilost I much prefer Dickinson's vocals, Running Free really works well with Dianno singing it. Needs that punky gravel.
Yep, watching the stream here..nice to spend the evening yet again with Maiden. Honestly can’t wait to hear news regarding future and tours.
I thought the tracks on the Garage Days Revisited EP were good. The Small Hours and Helpless especially.
Assuming you are referring to just the first CD: The Fate medley is godlike, Sabra and Astronomy are both amazing, Page and Electric are both solid. The other songs are ok to eh, but that’s only because I don’t parricularly enjoy the original source material.
That was great but Gers got on my nerves . It also struck me, once again, how much McBrain looks like Robin Trower. Bruce still has a good voice. That’s amazing that it’s still pretty much intact after all these years.
Yes, amazing! They metalized it like only they can, the harmonies are great, James sounds awesome, and the ending brings everything together expertly.
Please tell me you don't think it's on par with the original. Because their version just sucked it dry of all balls and all Soul, it's such plastic ****.
It was streamed live but of course recorded from different concerts. There were some truly visible edits (the ones that you mentioned but also some more aswell), that used footage from other concerts aswell.
