I love Sanctuary, but I only have the CD now and it throws me when it comes on! I think it does work as track two though.

I like Burning Ambition too. It was the B-Side of Running Free in the UK. Sanctuary had a very different early live version of Drifter and a live I've Got The Fire.

I always remember Dianno saying "Can you sing?!" to the crowd. "No!" they reply. Dianno - "You load of wankers!" during Drifter. It's censored on the 'First 10 Years' reissue.

I haven't had the Iron Maiden 45s for well over 20 years. I sold them when I was a student along with the vinyl albums. All of them as originals up to Fear of the Dark along with a full set of 45s apart from The Soundhouse Tapes.

What a dick I was! Not one of my better moves.

Sanctuary is probably my favorite tune from the debut (I'm in the US). Always dig the exaggerated pauses before the chorus on the old live recordings I have. And Phantom of the Opera is another one of those early songs that Bruce can absolutely slay onstage.

I'm happy that once we got to NOB the albums were standardized and then didn't have to worry about non-album singles being placed in weird places.

Total Eclipse is added to the Beast CD, second from last I think.

True, but that was with the 1998 remasters and not on the original. As much as I love the song and I'm happy it gets a wider audience, I don't like it's placement on NOB. We'll get to that in a couple weeks though.

Yeah, it might be best top leave it until after the album.

Was the original Killers different in the US too? I didn't know until this thread that the US albums were different.

I said a few days ago that Remember Tomorrow and Strange World sort of gel together as one in my (much later to the Di'Anno albums) mind. Listening to Strange World today it is definitely the one I know the best and I have no idea why that is.

This song is just all kinds of cool and very unique in the catalogue. I guess that comes about from a mixture of Steve really knowing what he was after and still retaining a youthful experimentation. Just as a studio cut this might be my favorite song on the album as it hits all the right buttons. I won't rank many songs because I'm not good at that but this is a perfect song.

Off/on topic, I'm not hung up at all on what order anything gets done in this thread. The general framework is there with the studio albums proper but @Musicman1998 can do singles (or North American/European running orders) before or after the relevant albums, makes no difference to me.

I'm just dying to get to Gangland and Sun and Steel!

I think from here on out I'll do the original tracklists (UK) and then singles and b sides

I'm going to post when we complete an album and their respective B-sides. I unfortunately don't have any fun trivia or tidbits like I did in the Kiss thread. All I have is reviews and some memories here and there. I will be reading the posts though!

When I was a kid "Strange World" was always my second-least favorite song on the debut; I felt the slow parts in "Remember Tomorrow" were enough for one album, and this just sounded like all ambience and no substance. But now I'm old and recognize it was an unusual move for a metal band to have a slow song that never rocks. And I like it.

US releases, UK releases, b-sides, special Greek edition, singles, Japanese EP...

We're only on the first album, and Maiden already has a more complicated discography than the Beatles!

Does anyone know the best pressing of the s/t mono version? :)

I don't know why, but I always get a strong Rush vibe off Strange World (and Prodigal Son off the next album). Love both those songs too! I wonder if Rush was an influence on them?
