I was previewing the tracks and I think you're right. Sounds like Stipe is just la la la-ing through each track

My set arrived today, listening to the 24/96 high res rip from the blu ray on my Pono, the album sounds really good. This seems to be a perfect album to get the high res treatment. Can't wait to dig into the other two discs tonight!

I dig Ignoreland! Something about it always reminded me of later era Zeppelin. The guitar changes feel Pagey to me for some reason?

I was thinking today that it's the only song from Automatic that hints at what's to come (Monster.)

I was only 7 years old when this album came out, but damn if I don't feel old listening to Michael describe the "new" solar powered generators powering the recording truck on the live disc.

I think the question is referring to the stereo mix, not the surround mix.

Don't get all the hate for ignoreland..
The album would be in danger of becoming somewhat flat without it, leaving Sidewinder the only fast pace track on the album, so it gets my vote.
I agree With George, most of the extra tracks are mildly interesting to listen to once but that's about it, Still think they would have gotten mileage out of maybe including a Ltd. edition 33rpm 7" vinyl with say 4 of the best Demo tracks included with the Vinyl Re-Release, Bit like this from the 1991 European pressing of Out of Time.
    R.E.M. - Out Of Time
Would have made it a more interesting buy, hell... maybe even go wild and colour the vinyl grey.

Seriously though, I'm itching to know if the vinyl is a significant improvement over the CD that's been out since its original release date. Anyone??

How are other people's vinyl pressings? It seems the European pressings have a few issues with surface noise and/or non-fill, is the American pressing the same?

Here's some light for the wave fans. Above MOTM the High-Res download, below the old DVD-A High Res. I guess the new remaster is not totally brickwalled, but the old version sure is a shining beauty of total dynamic range.

But not all is lost, the quieter songs don't miss much, just mastered differently. See Sweetness Follows, upper new and below the old version.

So the core album went from about a DR of 10 (1992 CD) to 8. Not horrible, but also not necessary.

forgive me for the intrusion, but did someone, in some thread, say that the cover artwork was altered for some of the previous deluxe editions? i can't seem to see any that are different, aside from AFTP that is.

    thanks in advance knowledgeable people!

The vocal always seemed whiny to me but otherwise I agree with you. Not a huge fan but it does provide some variety.

Maybe because John Paul Jones arranged the strings for the album?

Waiting on a price drop before I spring for this, but are any of the songs alternate mixes (like the female backing vocals that popped up on "Radio Song" on the OOT reissue)?

"Photograph" was left off the album and given to Natalie Merchant. She sang lead on her version with Michael doing backing vocals and the band backing her. It's on a bunch of her comp. albums but I can't recall what album of hers it was originally on. I've always loved this song and am excited to her finally here the original demo by REM.
