"Into the Night" is such an intense performance. It really stood out whenever it came on that summer ('80). The biggest hits at the time were smoooothies like Olivia's "Magic" and "Sailing" by Christopher Cross, and then here came Benny just pouring 150% of his soul into it ... wow!

I agree with this big time. This was not only a hit in 1980, but also a hit in 1989, that alone shows how timeless the song is.

It went out of print in the early 80's and while "Into The Night" was a played every night on a local radio show called "Pillow Talk", even the 45 was gone by 1987 and we had nothing to sell to all of the lovelorn fans who loved it. When it was resurrected in 1989 we sold a bunch, but the album went out of print again in 1991 or 92. It might've been available through Polygram Special Products as a bargin, non-returnable item for awhile and was re-issued again in 2004. I have to say the lyrics to "Into The Night" start out in Roy Moore territory.

The 2004 reissue remains in print to this day for $5.98. The 2004 reissue is compressed according to the DR+ database while older copies such as those pressed by PDO have the dynamic range. I did go on Soulseek to download Into The Night that came from iTunes so that I could try before I bought brand new and that is compressed like heck and obviously deleted the download. I am happy with my PDO pressed copy from the 1980s I bought used.

I first heard Benny Mardones when his debut album was released on the soon-to-be-defunct Private Stock (masters likely lost). The title track, All for a Reason (an Alessi Bros cover) is excellent. Produced by Andrew Loog Oldham.

I bought a copy of this a few years back because Mick Ronson was on it and wasn't digging it, I'll have to give it another spin.

Did they ever put out a greatest hits CD?

He only had one hit, so it would be pretty short.

I'm guessing that this song might go over big at some political fundraisers being held of late. Would say Moore but won't.

Great album in every sense. " TOO YOUNG" has one of the most impassioned vocal takes ever recorded. One of the few performances to make me tear up every time. Respect.

Into The Night is incredibly produced. Funny you mention this album as I just got it on vinyl a few months ago, suspecting that song would sound amazing and it certainly does. However, I didn't listen to the rest of it but will now!

I picked up "Never Run Never Hide" and his self-titled 1989 album on used CDs in the 90s. I'd turn up "Into the Night" if I heard it today. Just checked on Discogs.com; surprised to see that he released nine albums (Benny Mardones ).

I recall that he performed at a Roy Orbison tribute concert in the late '80s and blew everyone off the stage!

I remember I could not stand this song back in the 80s. It seemed so overblown and cheesy. Then many years ago, back when I used to watch soaps, someone put together a video montage of clips showing my favorite General Hospital couple, using this song as the background. I have loved it ever since. Even though I stopped caring about GH some time ago, I still have appreciation for the song itself. I will have to check out the rest of the album, thanks!

Hometown Girls was the followup single to "Into The Night" with the B-Side being "Crazy Boy." The B-Side of "Into The Night" is "She's So French."

Amazing how some songs that some people despised back in the day end up being loved by some of the people who despised the song over time.

The reason why this will be his final show is his Parkinson's has advanced to the point that he has to retire.
