fmfxray373 Capitol LPs in the 70s were pretty good.

I don't think John would be upset at all. I remember that he never really liked the way Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds sounded. I know he used to mention that song in various interviews.

You know Give My Regards To Broadstreet is a pretty good listen.

As to preventing someone from doing something "years from now", well good luck with that.

People want to put their hands on something great and claim a piece of it.

    I understand the urge.

John wanted to re-record a lot of The Beatles stuff!

And George was all for the Love remix which is as radical as Beatles remixes go

Are we going to wait to hear the music before we pass judgement? Maybe they can stop living 50 years in the past (said the guy with the Beatles avatar).

I’m still not sure what actual mixing Giles personally does.

Is he going to mix it? Or will they bring Max Martin? Maybe Steve Hoffman?

The mixing is all done by Sam Okell. Giles just approves them.

To be fair, you got the 1987 CD for a dollar because millions of people already have it...

Plus, there are better ways to listen to Sgt. Pepper than by digital CD.

I'd hate for someone to slap say, tons of echo on Beatles songs.

I’m not familiar with the Love remixes. Why are those better than Giles’s later remixes?

Cuz all you need is Love.
"Love is a soundtrack remix album of music recorded by the Beatles, released in November 2006. It features music compiled and remixed as a mashup for the Cirque du Soleil show of the same name."

The 5.1 mix was a lot more immersive and adventurous than his later surround mixes. You get the feeling that he felt more liberated to cut loose with the Love project. I remember hearing him describe his process for creating 5.1 mixes circa 1+ and how he tried to keep it as restrained as possible, particularly in terms of using the rear speakers. At that point, it's almost like why do a surround mix at all? As someone who really wanted to hear the Beatles that way, it's been one of my big disappointments with GM.

Thanks. So Giles IS capable of making great Beatles remixes if Apple Corps allows him to be adventurous and take more risks?

I don't know if he was forced or not. Maybe he feels like he needs to color inside the lines more when it comes to the albums proper. I got the impression that his philosophy towards mixing in 5.1 simply changed. He commented on how "distracting" it was to hear music coming out of the rears, for example. That's part of the idea with a surround mix.

Very well said! IMO it sums it all up. Some people can "color it" any way they want but in the end it's just pure ego - leaving personal mark in rock music history at someone else's expense.

Both the 1987 and 2009 CDs are pretty warm sounding to my ears and are pretty good sounding mediums for this album. I bought the orange Capitol in 1976 and listened that one a zillion times also.
Now I have a turntable with a $200 Ortofon stylus and a good cartridge and enjoy both the 2102 stereo remaster and the new Giles one.

All my versions of Pepper are a good recipe for wet blankets lol.

Probably not. Most likely 2.1 with ambience in the rear speakers.
