Let us know what you find out. I didn't purchase because I already have all their albums on the DVD-As that were released a few years ago. Unless and until I hear a consensus that the hi-res downloads are a newer and demonstrably better mastering...

No problem mate, I was expecting that answer from you haha) But yeah, I totally agree that now it's the time indeed to get some Deth albums re-released with decent mastering and original mix.

Back in October 2013 I bought the Ella Fitzgerald Sings The Harold Arlen Song Book 192kHz/24bit download from Acoustic Sounds. There was a problem with the release (tracks were corrupted, if I remember correctly) and thus Acoustic Sounds pulled the download from their website. Last week Acoustic Sounds notified me that UMG had finally released a corrected version. The 192kHz/24bit release of Ella Fitzgerald Sings The Harold Arlen Song Book that appeared last week at the various HD music sites is the corrected version. Not sure why it took UMG four years to correct the problem but happy to announce the new release sounds great.

It is in hi-res at the U.S. 7digital... And only $14.99 at time of writing! Must be an error, but grab it while you can, folks! In my opinion, Dave Schultz and Bill Inglot did a bang-up job on the mastering for this box set.

Incredible price for 12 albums! That must be an error indeed.

Just an update for Qobuz: it's now in Hi-Res but at 97€...

Yes that was an older message from me. Cheaper on Sublime, and I can stream them anyway, but for the 7D UK £11.99 it's a no brainer to download them, as I'm doing now too...

The source tapes are all at 16/44.1, so “hi-res” is a bit misleading

You know for certain that all of these albums were recorded at that resolution? Mixed to that resolution?

$14.99 is still a good deal for 12 albums, even if they were CD resolution.

I’m pretty sure that is stated at one of the websites selling it. I don’t know about any remastering, but you can check the frequency spectrums of the high-res yourself; cut off at 22 kHz, and noise at -96 dB, there’s no way to improve that.

All the tracks I've checked so far have some audio content above 22.05kHz, but I'm wondering if I'm seeing resampling artefacts. The live album looks to have proper audio well above the red book standard though. Any more information anyone?

When there is a sharp drop between 20 and 22 kHz, it almost always means there is a 44.1 sampling step in the chain; once it is there, there is no audio information at higher frequencies. I’ll take another look at the live album sometime (I bought the set from Prostudiomasters back when it came out)

ProStudioMasters indeed notes that some of the albums were 16/44.1 mastered at 24/96. Not particularly surprising given the vintage of those recordings.

I highly doubt there was any resampling done for the 96kHz release. Chances are that the mastering was all done in the analog realm before recapturing at 96kHz. The CDs may be resampled to 44.1kHz, or they may have been recaptured at 44.1kHz simultaneously.

And competent resampling wouldn't leave artefacts visible on a spectrogram.

Even professional software can leave visible artifacts, though. Whether they're audible or not is another story.

I love the site you linked. It shows there is always a trade-off with resampling. But that's hardly the subject of this thread.

2 albums coming out tomorrow that I’m hoping to see on HDtracks

Rolling Stones - On Air (Deluxe)
    Glassjaw - Material Control

Odds of either of these happening?

I don't know about Glassjaw, but the latest RS album was available as a Hi-Res (24bit/44.1kHz) download on release day.

That’s certainly good news. I figured that was the safer bet if the two… I thought the release day was tomorrow though! I’m reading through the main thread for that release now and it seems like it is sadly plagued with audio issues so I doubt I’ll be buying it anymore. But if I do, I’ll certainly go with the 24 bit. Now I’m on the fence after hearing that it’s boot sourced and turned into fake stereo… I was really hoping for clean, good new transfers of the material.
