:kilroy: This is quite innovative. Can you name any other record that fuses sitar ragas with cajun swamp music?

If Slade and Suzi are for kids, then I'll never grow up, now.

    Andy Gibb.

It doesn't hurt that his siblings lent their magic touch to his records, but he was talented in his own right.

My sister and her gang were mad about him (and Leif Garrett). Shaun had that sort of puppy dog vibe that American tweens always find endearing.

Shaun looked very much like his mum, Shirley Jones. I think they even shared a hairstyle at one stage.:)

Bolan was more of a teenybopper than Bowie but I remember a lot of girls fancied Bowie.

    What about The Sweet?

I never bought Look-In much, being of the belief that, like Jackie, it was 'for girls'. Well, Jackie actually WAS for girls. I had things like Popswap, Music Star and It's Here (And Now). All these regularly featured shirtless pictures of Marty Kristian so it looks like I couldn't do right for doing wrong!

That picture of the Sweet is atrocious. I don't know which one to make fun of first!

The Sweet were my older sister's favourites for a while, when glam was glittery. Later of course there were weaker follow up acts (Mud, Racey).

The Sweet and Slade looked like men. Albeit with questionable dress sense. They looked at least a decade older than the other acts of this type. Though they probably weren't.

Agreed. There's a bit of Jason King going on there though. They look quite mature, and I don't remember Steve Priest ever having that sort of afro. Do you think it's 1970 or later?

I used to like the ITV tv guide in Look-In. I used to get it occasionally, but it wasn't very classy tbh.
This was my era, I was 9 or 10 and into everything - Bowie, Gary Glitter, Alvin Stardust, Suzi Quatro, Alice Cooper, Slade, T.Rex, Sparks, Kenny and The Sweet. Of course I liked David Essex and Cassidy too, but the only Osmonds I ever liked was Crazy Horses. Didn't like the Rollers.

I assumed the picture of Sweet was later. Poor Steve Priest is 'rocking' a perm which seemed to be a craze in the late 70s when I was at school. All the hard lads had them and no one dare make fun of them.

On the other hand, Mick Tucker has a definite mullet. So, early 80s? Priest also looks older and 'better fed' than I remember him, though he could be aged by the perm and tache.

    Aghhhhhh, that picture!
And people on here question why Sweet were nothing without Brian Connolly, and why Sweet were not taken seriously.
Let's be honest, who would knowingly buy a record by a band whose members looked like that...

There was a band called Kenny. Their big hits were The Bump and, erm, Fancy Pants. Shall we leave it at that?:D

    Jason King??
He looks like a cross between Dean Friedman and the DJ Steve Wright.
What a mess, and from such a fabulous glam rocker.
Mind you worse was to come, a few years later he looked like he had eaten the other members of the band...

    That's so true!

Check out Heart of Stone. The falsetto is like Kate Bush on helium. But Kenny was really Chuff or something like that. Heart Of Stone was an Irish singer.

Get me to the doctor ! Thank God this act didn't make it across the Channel. But of course we had our local teenybopper big shots, like any other country.
