I got COGDS also, it sounded amazing. I was very surprised by it. I got it from a completist angle of course to have them all. Never heard an original from 81 but this thing sounds amazing to me.
Thanks so much for the feedback. I'm a completist myself and will rush into the store to buy it What's your take on Delicate?
I was happy with it until all the weirdness on side 2 during sorrow. I informed amazon UK where I got it that multiple reports of same thing. I have an original US copy with TML and it stand up easily from memory, I did not play them side by side yet.
As it should, the old US compact disc is a humdinger of an excellent sounder as well I'd hope they wouldn't muck it up for vinyl
Same happened with me, it seems that everybody is complaining about the full Side 2 of DSoT having that weird sound!
My DSOT (UK Amazon) seems fine. The only 'weird sound' on Side Two is Dogs Of War. But that's only because it's a horrible song...! I still think it's odd that they have changed the cover artwork for this one. And the new labels are nowhere near as nice as the originals. No idea why they've done that either...
It's a good thing Pink Floyd didn't call their album Delicate Sound Of Thundering Manliness... Our acronyms would be useless. Chaos and confusion in the Hoffman forums would ensue.
My copy of the 2017 DSOT, bought locally, is perfect as well. Flawless pressing, and my, what a step up from the sterile and distant sounding CD ...
I have bought the whole series of the reissues (EU-pressings) and all of the have been flawless. Especially as I got the "Delicate Sound Of Thunder" and "A Great Collection Of Dance Songs" couple weeks ago (when they were released), I listened to them very carefully and there were none issues to reported. I got some older editions and pressings of the albums on vinyl and cd, but nice to have all the albums in pristine, new immaculate pressings.
I have no problem with mine either. The sound quality is great, no noises, and no marks. Got it from Amazon U.K.
I tried an exchange of the 1st Disc to see if I would get a copy without that feedback weird sound in the 2nd Side, but sadly it was the same problem!
I am happy with these reissues so far (own 3 with a 4th on the way). It saves me time and money looking for good copies of certain pressings from around the world. This is a "one and done" pursuit for me... for now
How do the new reissues of Momentary Lapse and Delicate Sound compare to the original US pressings? I’m sure it’s in here, but a quick reply so I don’t have to dig thru 550 pages would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Welcome to the forum @joberschlake . Delicate Sound was only released last month. Think you only need to go back a few pages to see what's been written here so far.
I like the AMLOR reissue. Bernie Grundman cut improves the original. No idea about DSOT as my original is mint and I won’t replace it. As a guideline and after 550+ pages, the consensus is that all of the 2016 reissued are very good to excellent. They are especially appealing if you don’t have them or if your old copies are not NM and need to be replaced. Of course some will prefer their old pressings over the new ones but as far as money goes, they are the best deal around.
