I have no problems with DVDs and BluRays here.
I tried out getting the audio off some of my SACDs few days ago and googled about help but gave up eventually to avoid the trouble with shifty softwares.

I picked up a Pioneer Elite BDP-80FD for $140 and ripped my collection. Well worth the cost/time...

Definitely worth the $140 without a doubt! I have to give up on my fears and phobias about ripping my SACDs and just get it done :help:.

  5. Yeah, again.

  6. Don't get all upset, I was talking generally to many people that seem to get bothered by this sort of thing. I wasn't talking directly to you.

I'm fine. I'm not upset, not even a little, but you did quote my post.

That is equivalent to talking directly to me. Have a good one! :)

    Ugh - WYWH and DSotM...again?

This is like Hollywood's mentality of remaking/rebooting movies. Yawn.

For me, at least, to hear what's on it and to have it on my digital collection.
The high res audio content I mean. I don't have a SACD player.

Most SACDs have a hybrid CD layer. Would the best way to hear an SACD is to buy - an SACD player?!?

But if I want the high res audio from the other layer? I don't have the money and also not the space to build another player rack in my room.

My Oppo BDP-83 I bought eight years ago plays all hi res discs and continues to be a one stop option for me to play all discs. I recommend one if you ever get the chance. It would be the only player you’ll ever need.

Some people want the ability to listen to hi-res music on the go without having to buy an additional, often questionable, download.

Just got an used 103 as well. Plays HDCD, DVA A and have the streaming ability from Tidal. This things also plays all regions/zones disc if they were not write protected. I was told their new players are lacking some of these features.

And I'm happy to just let such pleasures wait for me when I get home. Since retiring, most of my time is spent at home anyway.

My needing on-the-go music days are behind me now.

I agree. The biggest issue I have with downloads is that from what I've read the source of the recordings and mastering is not always disclosed. When buying CDs or SACDs it's quite easy to research the quality of specific titles.

This is how they are milking the money out from the cow. If reissued, these two alone (DSOTM and WYWH) will probably outsell the rest of the entire catalog combined together.

Of course, I disagree with this sale strategy as I think the whole catalog should be available in an hi-res media format. I am however not very fond of hi-res download. No bad experience but far from overwhelmed from th SQ. Prefer to buy physical media.

For streaming DSD files. Then I can pick and choose songs/albums at a whim without getting off my lazy *ss and still have SACD quality.

Or you come home one day and some thief cleaned out your sacd collection. Or your place burned to the ground.

Ripping to hi-res flac allows for your collection to reside in duplicate safety. It survives.

Anything can happen, there’s no safe way of backing up files either physically or virtually. Hackers, virus, malicious software, code 18 user issue... In terms of music files, one should always at a minimum have an original + 2 backups and ideally in different locations.

Do I have a file backup of each CD that I own? No.
