Who was your favourite 'teenybopper' act?

The Monkees, for me.

They started out as teenyboppers until they (led by Nesmith) asserted themselves and moved in a more progressive (though not as commercially successful) direction.



I don't think The Beatles can accurately be described as teenyboppers.

From the very start they wrote most of their own music, and their early compositions were well-reviewed at the time by the Classical Music Reviewer for The London Standard (or whatever the main London newspaper was).

They may have appealed to a lot of pre-teens and teens, but that does not a teenybopper band make, IMO.

Yes, that is what I have been led to believe -- Bobby Vee was supposed to be one of the nicest people in showbiz.

Thanks, @Bobby Morrow! I came to really like many different artists in the following years such as Simon and Garfunkle, John Denver, Jim Croce, etc, but they were not "crushes" and none meant the same to me as Bobby. I think that being a fan at a young age can intertwine with a developing sense of self, a beginning ability to reflect about yourself and other people and life. Maybe experiences take on a bigger meaning, as you say, the first time things. I like hearing about others' experiences and WHY they like who they do, as it tells me something about the person and what moves them. I have a younger woman friend who liked the Nelson twins as a teen (Ricky Nelson's sons) and went a little nuts and reacted like a giggly teenager when I mentioned I had seen them in concert. Very fun conversation!
I do however think that Bobby's music IS the best ever made...

Definitely among the nicest!! You may have heard Bob Dylan's tribute to Bobby a few years back when he said Bobby was the most beautiful person he had ever been on stage with. As a fan, I found it very touching to see the outpouring of kind words from fellow musicians, fans, and friends of Bobby when he passed away. The Monkees and The Partridge Family. David Cassidy was quite a singer and they had some great songs presented to them.

 

Bay City Rollers, man. They were crazy in those kilts!

 

What’s odd about it? He had 3 top ten hits and co-starred on a hit TV show “The Hardy Boys Mysteries.” And he was a total cutie! Yes I had a crush on him back then.

No offence meant. He just never caught on here. The fan magazines tried to build him up, but it didn't work. Andy Gibb was another one who didn't have anywhere near the same success he had in the States in the UK. Though he fared a little better than Shaun.

No, it's Peter Shelley doing the vocal. Not the guy from the Buzzcocks, it was the one who sang Love Me Love My Dog.. Alvin did the vocals on the rest of his songs...Well, as far as I know.
