Or, they can convince themselves of its superiority. I know, in retrospect, that I've done this and I'm a heck of a guy.

Jeff, can you provide a link to prove my 1986 CD is compressed? It's not what I hear.

Me too of course. My latest was Fleetwood Mac S/T 2 X 45, because Chris Bellman cut it. First of all, the Kendun still has the bigger balls, and...they announced the box set a week later. :cussing::winkgrin:

SACDs won't be ready until Late Summer 2018 ? I don't even know where I'll be living ( or if I'll be living ) by then.

Congratulations to you. I retired earlier this year and seem to have less time than when I was working.

I still stand by my post. I refuse to buy the 3 main studio Hendrix albums again, sorry can't do it. I don't care what they sound like. I have plenty of copies in my collection to keep my happy for a long while.

I was avoiding physical media for a while but no more. I can get the SACD, rip it to file and own it plus it is a worst case back up if I lose everything despite all my backup. And I can sell it if it stinks. Last, many of the downloads are just DR rubbish. Better to buy an older CD on Discogs w/great DR for much less and have it sound better. I made the mistake of buying all these downloads ever since they went live a few years back and a great percentage are disappointing.

Dave, the 1986 Polydor Band of Gypsies CD is not compressed. Jeff is talking about Machine Gun, a title EH released recently of one of the Fillmore East shows. Completely different from the BOG CD you are talking about. Yes, the SACD of that is not compressed while the CD/HD Download have some limiting.

I don't get why they are releasing the same Pink Floyd 5.1 SACDs that were released before.
Is Guthrie finished working on the 5.1 version of The Wall that he said he was working on in 2011?
Why not release some of their other albums in 5.1?
Some of them even have a ready to go quad mastering.

Apparently those SACD's are out of print now. I checked Acoustic Sounds store and they are no longer for sale.

Most audiophile fans of PF have those OOP releases already and will be reluctant to buy the same thing twice. Whereas this is not the case with any new PF albums on 5.1 and SACD.
Its a microcosm of why the record industry is on its knees.
They need to think harder about their strategies.

For the Hendrix releases, will they be on the Sony label or Acoustic Sounds?

No go on the Hendrix SACDs for me. I am more than happy with my needle drops of the Sony stereo and mono reissues. Plus, I can’t imagine that the mono AYE won’t sound like poo if they used the same tape that was used for the 2013 Sony LP.

I may be willing to reconsider if I knew that Electric Ladyland and the UK AYE would also get the same treatment. The idea of a whole set of these would be enticing.

Unless they are a new 5.1 mixes for Floyd - then I might bite.

Human nature & tribalism notwithstanding, those who prefer one CD mastering over another can often justify their "choices". I can hear differences and ...surprising as it might seem... sometimes the holy grail isn't a golden chalice.

Comparisons don't always favor expensive imports or well reviewed remaster regardless of initially glowing endorsements & consensus. All choices are system and hearing dependent. Boomer ears aren't going to hear music the same way as a Millennial's. My vaulted room & large Maggie based system isn't going to sound the same as the next guy's desktop set-up or another guy's Wilson Audio rig.

More food for thought: Have you ever wondered how many folks posting here have a hearing deficiency of one kind or another? Or how many may be accessorizing their listening via hearing aids? Note: I'm serious, not trying to be a smart ass. No offense intended, I'm just pointing out the demographic realities.

All things being subjective ...including what qualifies as spending too much..., I've found some "amazing & detailed" versions of albums and easily tell them apart from less pleasing versions. That said, everyone's mileage varies. BTW, my ears are far from golden, except ...perhaps... in the aforementioned age category.

John Buchanan I'm just a headphone kind of fellow. Stax Sigma

These should come out on the Analogue Productions label, if Wish You Were Here and Machine Gun are anything to go by.

It's recordings made in 1967! I don't believe Axis and especially AYE will sound much better suddenly. But people believe what they want to believe.
