Not sure what his best film is, but my favorite is a toss-up between The Fabulous Baker Boys and The Fisher King.

    Marlon Brando One-Eyed Jacks-1960
Brando in his directorial debut.Practically black balled from great roles in 1960 Brando set out on his own here. Its a magnificent character study of the dark side of human nature.Set in the old west its Western gleaming with intelligence and grit.Sam Peckinpah-style 9 yrs before The Wild Bunch gained all the credit. This movie is just shamelessly overlooked.Hell you cant even get a good print of it.Some of Brandos best one liners and some of his best acting.Essential to any comprehensive movie collection.Peace.

Hard to ignore his role as The Joker in the first Batman film, or as Major Jessup in A Few Good Men......

Tom Hanks. Pick either Saving Private Ryan or Philadelphia.

    Midnight Cowboy (I’m walkin’ here)

    Barely over

The Graduate (You’re trying to seduce me, Mrs. Robinson)

Though if I were picking the best performances Tootsie, and Kramer vs. Kramer, and Little Big Man and Rain Man and on and on

Dustin Hoffman is the best actor of my lifetime.

I haven't seen all of Washington's films, but I thought his performance in "Training Day" was exceptional and it would be my pick

If you like 'brother' movies-there is also 'True Confessions'-with De Niro as his brother. Bleak, but I like it. I don't have a favorite actor myself...

Al Pacino - Glengarry Glenross or Insomnia. In Gelngarry Glenross he just sits inside the character and gives it to us, in Insomnia he is ripe in his acting but there are touches of a character he is giving us with so many clues in so many small ways as to who this person is, how he holds himself and how he is going insane. Sorry, spoiler on a near twenty year old film.

Meryl Streep - so many but let me use a scene from Bridges of Madison county where she walks away from Clint Eastwood and brushes her skirt. Complex and powerful.

Heath Ledger for the Joker but far more than that.

Phllip Seymour Hoffman - Charlie Wilson's War. I've said it before here, he may be in bad movies but he is never bad in a movie.

    Great minds think alike!
My favourite Jack Nicholson performance is The Passenger. Nice and understated...he's not simply being "Jaaaaack" in that one:righton:

Ah:righton: Good movie, he's still a little bit "Jack" in that one IMO. Love the "I am the m'f'n shore patrol, m'f'r!" line, though:laugh:

:DI think yer thinking of Midnight Run...Midnight Cowboy is Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight. De Niro could have played Ratso Rizzo, though, I suppose...

Bob. Small part, waiter at Andy Warhol party. De Niro admitted this in a interview with Dustin on TV talk show.
