The remix is so good I can’t listen to the original anymore. Any examples?

the original mix doesn't sound dull and lifeless at all. the new mix sounds shrill, LOUD, undynamic and unbalanced. everything is heavily compressed.

Dramatically different to the album version...and dramatically better, too!

 

I was sceptical re the 'unreleased' nature of the 2015 mixes of the VU's 'Lost Tapes' but my goodness they sound amazing . Especially 'I Can't Stand It'. Wow. Moe's drums really drive that now.

Also very fond of the new mix of 'Sweet Jane'. Much fuller sound and the middle 8 no longer sounds like it has been patched in from an inferior source

Looking at the credits on Discogs, it seems it was only remastered. (that cover is ugly! )

 

I love that song and never listened to that 12" before! Is this the version you are talking about?

 

In some ways i like the Kiss Destroyer remix, really only for the increase in the bottom end.

 

Robert Palmer - Bad Case of Loving You remix on the Addicted CD. It retires the original.

Pete went into the studio and re-recorded some things that were not on the extant tapes. Presumably this tambourine too, it's noticeably different from the classic mono mix if you listen to it.

I wish I could unhear the Genesis remixes.
Some of the Who remixes are OK, others not so good (Who By Numbers).
I'm a big fan of the SW remixes of Chicago II.
I also like most of the ELP remixes.

 

Those remixes are brilliant! Now wouldn't it be nice if those tracks from Where Have I Known You Before and No Mystery that didn't get remixed, actually end up getting remixed.

 

Correct. Several of the final 3-tracks are missing, so the remixes come from tapes that are missing overdubs. Tambourine on I Can't Explain, guitar on My Generation, etc. For the newer remixes new overdubs were added.

IMO the album version is way better though.
This 12'' mix is a typical 80s extended version. Nice gimmick ... nothing more.

There seem to be two remixes though.

Isn't saying "absolutely none" the same as saying absolutely no remaster sound better than the original? Absolute is a strong word

 

The early Byrds albums (CDs remixed by Anesini) come to mind

 

Don't know if it'll ever be released standalone on CD, but the remix just got issued on vinyl with the original Ten cover art

 

Personally I love the Numb remix on the Best of 1990-2000 by U2 but I cannot stand the original mix on Zooropa. I will skip the original every single time. It just grates but for some reason the new mix grabs me. No clue as to why.
