Ah, missed that, my bad. I was used to non-hybrid SACDs, or SACDs where the Redbook layer has a different and horrible mastering. But yeah, you're right, I guess the Redbook layer will probably be fine on those!

  2. The Wish You Were Here SACD is fantastic, matched only in sound quality by the Blu-ray from the Immersion edition.

I still like the Sony Mastersound CD of WYWH. Whether it's best is debatable and a topic for another thread. I'm curious to see how DSOTM will sound especially if it's a new master, compared to the old ones like the original Sony mastering. I just hope it's a new master and done well.

I kind of agree on the Hendrix stuff too. I like my vinyl records of those albums better than the CDs in terms of sound quality. But then again the only CD I've got is the "Experience Hendrix" greatest hits one.

I like the WYWH Sony master sound as well. If they use the new master then DSOTM new SACD will be spectacular!

What did you buy for $215? The JHE SACD are $34.95 each...

I disagree on both counts. The Pink Floyd SACD's are (to my ears at least) tonally the closest to the "holy grail" CD's than any of the other remasters.

It is ok that you disagree with me.
But you do not understand me. Tonality is good. But that's only half part of the story.

I don't have a record player in my living room now. I think it's to much buzz with Lp's, and there is some distortions in sound with Lp playback that is hard to totally get rid of.

  12. Damn. That explains all of the non DR discs showing up in the bins! ;)

The latest Music Direct newsletter doesn't mention the Axis Bold As Love SACD as having mono and stereo mixes. I wonder if they know something we don't?

Do you mean non RE-1? If so, I want to move to your area! :righton:

  17. I'm sure it's probably the same mastering but I actually prefer the SACD (for that layer). It sounds smoother to my old ears.

Same here for a more aggressive approach. For laid back my old UK Harvest. Didn't enjoy the 2 channel SACD (WYWH)

The good part of that is you can get some good money for the latter.

  20. My issue is that they keep reissuing the same two titles as SACDs. I'd be fine if they could do some of the other titles that were remixed for 5.1 as SACD as I didn't get the Immersion sets (too expense relative to what you are getting).

It does in the description - and says "Both discs contain Stereo and Mono.."

The packaging is the only reason I haven't Classified it yet (Beautiful presentation). I'd sell it at an affordable price.

  24. Correct, but translating the PCM mastering to the DSD of SACD tends to "soften" a mastering's sound.
